I know I'm guilty of adding a few too many letters. But on top of the MOS numeric identifier I tried adding some of the SQI/ASI (additional skill Identifiers)
But the SBS stuff I just made up. I wanted to sort of add a skill that was relevent to how he escaped Cobra Island. (Hotwires a Hydrofoil) In my verse Mercer was an original Joe, who like Rourke from DDP, was sent undercover years ago. He was in fact a Delta Force Team leader recruited by Hawk. So I use his V2 Sgt Major persona as his true identity. Him being a Sgt Major all of a sudden makes no sense, unless he was already in the military. Plus Version 2 is from the wonderful State of Virginia, which I call home. But my Mercer is as much of a badass as Duke is suppose to be.

With Stretcher, they never specify what branch of service he comes from. As enlisted medical specialist, I chose to a make him an Air Force PJ. They patch people up and evacuate them to safety. It also implies a lot of other qualifications to people who understand the PJ mission. I used the troop transportation specialty as a reason for him to have been in the motor pool. I used working with the Australian SASR to account for the NATO combat unit mentioned in the original filecard. Plus a lot of PJ's and CCT's are currently working with that unit in Afghanistan. The final blurb was just to show how dedicated he was to bringing everyone back alive.

I've been reading back through the thread, and looking over our discussion of Flint as a Rhodes Scholar / SF / Warrant. At the same time, I was watching Blade and decided to wiki Kris Kristofersen...OMG I knew he was a bit of a renaissance man but geez, he's like a cross between Flint and Wild Bill.
He's a Rhodes scholar who joined the Army, went to Ranger School, then flight school, rose to the rank of Capt then left for a song writing /acting career...he turned down a chance to teach English Lit as West Point!..geez... Kris Kristofferson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Static Line is listed as a demolitions expert, but he defuses bombs instead of setting them. That pointed me in the direction of EOD tech. I pick the Navy; because, Navy techs are often jump and dive qualified. They also more likely to operate with Special Ops forces (e.g. SEALs, Marine Recon, Rangers). The EOD Techs from the other services are more conventional. The VCU degree is made up for background and color. The previous work on airplanes gives me the reason for his two completely unrelated specialties. Being cooped up on a carrier seemed a bigger incentive to switch specialties that working on planes in another service.

I've no problem with detailed military bg, just wondering what e.g. lettered in lacrosse (iirc) means. Yeah I can guess, it means he's really good, but where is that from. Or am I misremembering... /me goes to check the filecards again!
I like the idea, it would just be nice to know, for each character/filecard, where the info/reasoning has come from. But that's a job for e.g. a wiki, not the filecard competition, so ignore my comment for the time being!

"Lettering" in a Sport is a term we use in American schools for playing on the Varsity team. That may not mean much, so I'll try to explain better. In American high schools (usually grades 9-12, the school one attends just prior to University), each school plays other schools in all sorts of sports. I'm sure this is no different in England. But not everyone who wants to play is good enough to play on the School's main team. So we have different levels of competition. The Varsity team is the best team and represents the school in competition with other schools at the highest level of competition. These are the teams that are eligible for "State Championships" and other honors. Junior Varsity (JV for short) is the next level. If a player is a little too small, too slow, too weak, or unskilled to play at the highest level, they play on the JV team, and often play other schools JV teams and/or serve as reserve members of the Varsity team in case of injury. "Lettering" in a sport requires a player to earn a spot on the Varsity Team. The term "Lettering" comes from the Athletic School Jackets given to Varsity Athletes. The Jacket is of a certain "traditional" style. It's make in the school colors, usually with a wool torso and leather sleeves. On the Left Breast of the jacket is the First Letter of the Name of the School. I went to Aberdeen High School, so my Letter Jacket was Navy Blue with White Trim and had big "A" on it. The Letter worn on the jacket is awarded for playing on the Varsity Team. This practice continues at University level. American College/University Athletics are VERY competitive. The schools are separated, athletically, mostly by size. Division 1 is the highest level of University/Size and College Athletic Competition. At West Point, every Student is required to participate in athletics. Because they recruit students who are VERY gifted to begin with, competition to make the "Varsity" teams is very competitive. West Point/Army athletics are very tough, and it's a BIG deal to earn the Army Letter "A" on a Jacket.

Here's my problem. I write out a whole card and can't get it to fit.
So many details missing. Here's how I wanted it to read: Mercer Urban Assault Troop Sgt Major Mercer was a typical American youth. He excelled at sports, loved cars, hunting, boating, and loved his country. Had he been a better scholar he may have gotten himself a football scholarship. Figuring he wasn't quite cut out for school, he joined the Army after one run-in with the law, upon the judges orders. His athletic ability, and homegrown common sense, soon found him a home in the 75th Ranger Battalion. Mercer has completed: Airborne School, Ranger School, Air Assualt School, Surveillance Leaders Course, SERE Training, Military Free Fall, and Underwater Operations. He also crossed trained with British Special Boat Service and German GSG-9. Expert with over 50 types of machine guns, pistols, rifles, crew served weapons, and explosives, including Cobra standard weapons. When Hawk formed the Joe team he brought in men he had served with and trusted. One of those men happened the be his Reconnaissance Troop Sgt Major while part of the Combat Applications Group.(CAG)* When asked to take on such a dangerous undercover mission Mercer didn't even have to think about it. [Subject is also rated MOS 88K Watercraft Operator] Mercer had been undercover within Cobra for so long they almost forgot about him. For over 3 years he managed to learn the ins and outs of Cobra tactics. Although he wasn't so well received when he was first brought back into the Joes, it was soon apparent how much of patriot this guy is. After his reconciliation period he was able to lose his undercover identity and be reinstated to his full rank. He now serves as the Urban Assualt Troop Sgt Major. *(CAG-otherwise known as Delta Force) The other problem I had is what MOS are Delta Guys. 11B? or 18B? Or something else like 188? *Notice I wanted him to have 3 MOS!! Here is what I wanted to say compared to what fits. 11Z W9 V means Infantry Senior Sgt, HALO SCUBA, Ranger Parachutists. I think I need a 4 in there too. But I have no idea where ASI/SQI identifiers get written anywhere. Here's a list of Army MOS:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...s_Army_careers I don't even get Navy.

Well, in a bit of good news for my on-going custom project - since a lot of the Wave 3 Alpha vehicles have shown up lately on ebay, I was able to get another Polar Sharc with Ice Storm. That means that I've been able to take the head from Ice Storm, design a custom body for him, and send him to Marine_Deadpool for paint as a member of my Marine Recon Unit.
And thanks to Blackrazor for the advice to include Link Talbot as a Corpsman for that unit - genius. I think it's going to turn out really well. They all have custom (improved) bodies and I've selected parts to make them bigger (except for Mainframe). They're a pretty indimidating unit. Here's the roster for my Marines... 1. Lt. Stone (Extreme - I promoted him to Captain) 2. Gung-Ho (Trigate head) Master Gunnery Sgt. 3. Leatherneck (Trigate head) Gunnery Sgt. 4. Sgt. Slaughter (in 8-point soft cover) Gunnery Sgt. 5. Sgt. Stone E-5 6. Ice Storm (Royal Marine: SBS) E-5 7. Link Talbot - Navy Corpsman E-5 8. Hollow Point E-6 9. Mainframe E-6 10. Mace Master Gunnery Sgt. 11. Mirage E-5 12. Bullhorn E-5
