I think what happened is he pissed someone off at some point, and they used that as a convenient excuse to out him.

Kinda slow here gentlemen.
Let's polish up the rules for the filecard contest. Templates: Flint, Shipwreck, Duke, Falcon (who else?) Format: Must follow templates. Schooling, history and personality. Must fit into the Joecustoms filecard generator template. Joes: New or one of the ones with bad cards? Schooling: cannot be made up Judges: ??? Prize: Bragging rights

When you say schooling can't be made up, do you mean military training (like, you can't just make someone a Ranger who isn't one already), or do you mean you can't add what university they went to (like, "Flint went to Duke University" or "Falcon graduated from West Point")?

For example, can't say Spearhead went to "Pointman School" where we know there's no such thing. So would have to find real military training that would work for a "pointman".

Yes, I think we should get points for realism. When you talk about training or weapons, they should reflect real training and weapons.
We may want to divide the custom cards into two contests: new and remakes. But I think we should all at least create one original GI Joe--an all new character. But realism isn't the only criterion for judging the cards. We should judge creativity and specificity and the writer's prose (yes, this includes spelling and grammar). And we could leave a little flexibility as to how the writer wants to integrate the character's personality and training into the heart of the card. In other words, simply listing training schools in this fashion: "BIT, AIT, Jump School," etc is efficient but not necessarily interesting. Take a look a Leatherneck's card. We get a sense of his personality while also getting a look at his military history, even if it is inaccurate. Also, concision should be an important standard. You only have so much space to work with, so the more concrete details you provide about a character, usually the better, but it should be done without sacrificing the economy and beauty of the prose by merely jamming stuff in. Overall, there should remain a nice balance between an accurate military figure and a GI Joe, which is a colorful fictional character. Last edited by Tanksmasher; 05-11-2010 at 11:55 AM.. |

I think it's only if needed or required by the unit they support.
I figure the Joes would need it.
