I hear what you're saying about Chuckles - we were going for something like Under Amor or a wet-suit; something sleek. It just seemed like too much black to leave his shirt blank, but I hear what you're saying. We wanted him to look like a part of the ODA group, and the panels are also there as kind of a "gee-whiz" feature. I do think it would blend into the woods better than plain black.

I actually saw a wet-suit like this last year in Hawaii when I was on my Honeymoon. We were walking through a mall and I saw this wet-suit with camo panels and I was like - "This is what the Joes should have". So I've been saving that idea up for a while. I figure Chuckles works with CIA, so his gear is a less standard, and more custom - and more expensive. "Gucci-Flauge" probably isn't too far off; maybe "more expensive than standard issue" would be a better way of describing it, albeit far less poetic. ;) I just wanted something sleek, distinctive, tactically practical - but also I wanted this figure to POP a little. When people see it, I wanted people to stop and say, "Oh, that's cool. Look at that; the paint scheme is really neat on Chuckles. I wouldn't have thought of that." That was the idea anyway.

He's my own character (I refer to inventing a new character as, "Taking a page out of the "Loose Cannon Playbook"). Basically he's got the same qualifications as RoC Duke: Special Forces Major. So he's not the Duke I know - the blond Special Forces First Sgt.
It's also given me a lot of room to maneuver about his qualifications: Stryker's pretty awesome. He's got all the badges and qualifications: Prior Service Marine Scout/Sniper - went to West Point - Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, Sapper, Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, HALO, Scuba, Special Forces, served with Delta Force, etc. You get the idea. He's just an awesome Combat Officer, which I've always felt the Joes were a little short on. His name comes from John Wayne. Obviously, Hasbro was thinking of John Wayne when they invented the character named "Duke". One of my favorite John Wayne war movies was "The Sans of Iwo Jima". His character in that film was named "Sgt. Striker". I played with that a little - I thought it was fitting to have some relation to John Wayne - and named this RoC variation of Duke "Major Stryker". That's why I consider him as a Prior Service Marine - it's in honor of John Wayne's character in "The Sands of Iwo Jima". Marine_Deadpool thinks that with the Goatee (his idea), he looks like John Travolta instead of Channing Tatum... maybe his name should be "Fever" or "Mr. Saturday Night" ;) Ha! But those are some serious credentials. I wonder how many Marines go back join the Army. But it's not like Mainframe didn't do it the other way. I like that idea alot though. Creating a new character to compliment what the team needs, thus keeping Duke as the First Shirt. Quote:
Hey, for what it's worth, I thought you did a really good job. It's not easy to be informative, entertaining, and concise. If nothing else, it's a great place for us to start. And you did a heckuva job making it look good. It would certianly pass as a Joe File card, and it's way better than a LOT of them.

The Joe team is woefully short on infantry officers. I like to think with my Joeverse now that the Majors are the backbone of the leadership. But as soon as I start setting up teams I think Duke should be one of these guys. I've already added my own set of Majors to my Joeverse as team leaders. Claymore; Duke; Dutch; Rapid-Fire; Stone(Extreme); Dillon (SAD 0-4 equivalent); Bullet-Proof

So that got me thinking. It would be no problem for an enlisted Marine to apply to West Point. Maybe he wanted something different, maybe he liked the mission of Special Forces, maybe he had an officer from Annapolis that he didn't like. Any number of reasons. So maybe this young Marine's CO is a West Point grad, and he helps him through the application process. That was the idea anyway. Quote:
I was hoping we could all come together and write up the card. Making the card with Joe Customs filecard creator is the easy part. (like 10min.) Trying to keep it not too cheesy and realistic was a little harder. I gave up after an hour. I thought Parachute Rigger sounded cool. But I'm not sure how the Army works and having two MOSs Airborne Infantryman is not a real MOS. maybe it was before.
They're using something very similar in Iraq and Afghanistan right now. They have shirts that go under thier flak jackets/body armor. The shirts have regular ACU/MARPAT sleeves, but the torso is underarmor-type stuff to wick away the sweat and lighten the load. SO the idea of two-tone camo under armor isn't too far fetched. Plus, because Chuckles probably works for CIA, he's not restricted to "standard issue" gear. That was my thinking anyway.

Recondo; Recoil; Spearhead; and Pathfinder.
You figure what course are they all taking. Ranger School(Does this count for Mountaineering by itself or would that be a separate Course?; Airborne School; Pathfinder School; What is the MOS for a Medic in the army? \ Again how does it work having two MOSs? EDIT:: OK I found it-- 68W Health Care Specialist (aka Combat Medic)

OK but what about Additional Skill Identifiers. I figure the Joes would all have them after their MOS and maybe even Special Qualification Identifiers as well.
So someone like Skydive would be PMS: Infantry (11B 50 2B JW V)? 50 because of Rank? 2B Air Assualt? JW Jump Master? V Parachute Ranger?

Yeah Hama could have saved us tons of trouble if he had just used real MOS identifiers but then again half of the fun is trying to figure out who the characters are.
Altitude's SMA rank is suspect, of course, but I wouldn't say that Sky Patrol members having an SF background is that way off. They don't necessarily have to be SF but it fits my purposes. I think we need to republish the filecards and make the necessary corrections personally Quote:
I can see it now...
"Hisstank.com Proudly Presents... From the Nerds at "What Secrects Lurk in the File Cards?" The G.I. Joe Dossiers as they should have been: G.I. Joe - File Cards - Declassified" Starring: The Forums most prolific poster and founder of the thread - Troynos. Loose Cannon - the Joe-Maniac of Moscow... this guy would do a headswap with a Pee-Wee Herman doll if he could think of a new code name for it. Fogger1138 - The man who knows more about Copyrights than anyone else on the internet, and his knowledge of the comicbook industry is staggering. Tanksmasher - The man who once told an entire Forum where to stick it... and he was RIGHT! ZuluDelta - we don't see him much anymore, but we hope he'll do the artwork for this book ;) Topside - A great guy who knows WAY too much about aviation, but we're glad for the info. Lardman - who classes this joint up by being British Blackrazor - the man with info on nearly any subject that gets brought up... how does he keep his post count so low? & Oliverbox - the overly opinionated Chaplain. Ex- we would use the name, rank, serial number, birthplace & MOS off the character's cards and then fill in schools & quals using the pick 3 from this column like on the SB form. Just a thought. |
