I make the leap for Hit & Run cause I like him so much, but would be happy just making him jump qualified and 10th Mountain, lol
But like Tank said a page or so back, not having all the Joes be Ranger-qualified just seems odd (army ones anyways) for what is supposed to be an elite unit. If they're not Ranger-qualified there has to be something MAJOR that makes them stand out from all the Ranger-qualified guys out there. Hit & Run - He's one of my favorites as well, and for that reason, I added him to my custom SAS unit. I'll use him as an SAS trooper instead of an American Mountain Infantryman. Here's something to keep in mind: A Ranger Tab is not the end all of soldiering. There are TONs of excellent soldiers out there who do not have a Ranger Tab. And there are plenty of guys who have a Tab, and are real jerks. 40% of Special Forces does not have Ranger Tabs. That's pretty significant. Some SF guys may elect to go back and get one, but most don't - the Long Tab is way cooler than the Ranger Tab, so why bother?

Original Airborne, However, I can't see it. He's a Helicopter Assault Trooper - he probably came right out of the 101st. Probably an excellent Infantryman, Airborne and Air Assault qualified, and smart as a whip (he's got a law degree), but not necessarily a Ranger.

Well, for a lot of them it's their specialty - Lifeline is a great medic; he doesn't need to be a Ranger. Same for a lot of the vehicle drivers, commo guys, etc.

If he's such a great infantry soldier, why wasn't he tapped for Rangers or even SF? Wouldn't an elite unit like the Joes wonder why he never went on?

All that's true, but if you're an elite unit looking for new recruits and you come across two mortar soldiers, both are tops, but one has the tab and one doesn't, which are you going to grab?
Grunt's a prime example. If he's such a great infantry soldier, why wasn't he tapped for Rangers or even SF? Wouldn't an elite unit like the Joes wonder why he never went on? With Grunt, it's like I said earlier... most of these elite units were very risky career moves when they were getting started. When Delta started, the best and the brightest (Officers especially) didn't want anything to do with it - there's not a lot of room for promotion. So they invited people, and waited to see who showed up. Then, of those people, they've got to see who made it through Selection & Training. Here's the other factor: When the Joes Started, they just wanted different "specialties". Stalker was already the "Ranger" for the Team, Snake-Eyes was the "Commando". So they probably thought, "Hey, we need an Infantryman" without realizing that "Ranger" really means "The Best Infantry". Clutch went to Ranger School, for crying out loud, the qualifications were all messed up.

Based on specialties, I think all of the Sky Patrol are probably Ranger- and SF-qualified. They have the perfect team for an ODA setup.
ODB Sgt Major - Altitude (18Z) ODA: Operations Sgt - Skydive (18Z) Weapons Sgt - Drop Zone (18B) Engineer/Demo Sgt - Static Line (18C) Medical Sgt - Airborne (18D) Comm Sgt - Airwave (18E) |

Altitude's file card is CRAZY - SGM of the Army?! Give me a break! Ridiculous. I think Static Line is an Engineer/EOD - and he may even have a Sapper Tab. I think Airwave is a Signal Corps/Commo Guy And I think Airborne is a Medic/Rigger All of them are excellent soldiers, but there's no evidence that the latter 3 are Rangers or SF, because to put that info on 2 of the file cards leaves the other 4 with glaring holes in their qualifications. How did we all get so "Ranger-Happy" all of the sudden? Did I start this? Shame on me.

Well, ignoring the obvious errors and inconsistencies with the filecards, it's up to us to fill in the gaps. They may not have listed every Ranger as "Ranger Qualified" or every SF as "SF Qualified" because that gets to be monotonous in the writing of the cards and they probably want the writers to emphasize personality traits and other characteristics more than military training and weapon qualifications. So omission alone doesn't mean that they can't be SF or Rangers. Many Joes for example are identified as being Ranger Qualified but they don't have the title of Ranger like Stalker does, probably because it's too repetitive and homogenous.

Yeah Hama could have saved us tons of trouble if he had just used real MOS identifiers but then again half of the fun is trying to figure out who the characters are.
Altitude's SMA rank is suspect, of course, but I wouldn't say that Sky Patrol members having an SF background is that way off. They don't necessarily have to be SF but it fits my purposes. I think we need to republish the filecards and make the necessary corrections personally |

I think we need to republish the filecards and make the necessary corrections personally "Hisstank.com Proudly Presents... From the Nerds at "What Secrects Lurk in the File Cards?" The G.I. Joe Dossiers as they should have been: G.I. Joe - File Cards - Declassified" Starring: The Forums most prolific poster and founder of the thread - Troynos. Loose Cannon - the Joe-Maniac of Moscow... this guy would do a headswap with a Pee-Wee Herman doll if he could think of a new code name for it. Fogger1138 - The man who knows more about Copyrights than anyone else on the internet, and his knowledge of the comicbook industry is staggering. Tanksmasher - The man who once told an entire Forum where to stick it... and he was RIGHT! ZuluDelta - we don't see him much anymore, but we hope he'll do the artwork for this book ;) Topside - A great guy who knows WAY too much about aviation, but we're glad for the info. Lardman - who classes this joint up by being British Blackrazor - the man with info on nearly any subject that gets brought up... how does he keep his post count so low? & Oliverbox - the overly opinionated Chaplain.
