Love the theory. I can see him as Special Forces no problem. He reads like a Special Forces guy.
But as for Delta there is just nothing to back it up with. Hawk is not Delta Force, except from Action Force. The Declassified has nothing as to what the unit Hawk was leading that Stalker was a part of. Seem like a UN refugee camp more than anything else. Being a gang leader doesn't mean he's an Urban Warfare expert either. Just makes me think he dealt drugs and forced little kids to kill rivals for him. They made no claim to any Special Operator status for Hawk until the Spy Troops era, where he's listed as Ranger. Still I think he should be some Special Operator type. (I like Delta myself) As for Stalker, if say he went Green Beret, which it seems like his filecards suggest, then maybe he went Delta afterwards. Although most Delta Force come out of the Rangers, some are Green Berets. I bet most Green Berets were Rangers beforehand as well. Seems like an individual would either choose Green Berets or Delta, but not both. Still I'm sure many have, and I bet all Delta Force guys out of Special Forces were Rangers before that. Like Green Berets who rotate out with Psy-Ops, some Delta Force guys go back to the Rangers after their stint with Delta. (At least that's what the Sgt Major in the Kill bin Laden book did) Maybe when Stalker helps form the Joes he had already rotated through all that and was back with the Rangers. He should have been a Sgt Major but maybe he got knocked down a few stripes for the Borovia incident. So he's only an E-5 but almost 20years of service. So what I'm saying is that AF's assertion that Hawk was with Delta is applicable to the American Continuity. You're right, the "Declassified" issue doesn't really say a lot about what Hawk's unit was doing in Borovia, other than providing security. But if we add the AF continuity, they could have very well been a Delta Unit - Delta provides security all the time. The thing about Stalker is that it's never explicitly mentioned that he's SF - never. Even Beach-Head finally gets the nod as an offical Green Beenie. But with all of Stalker's qualifications, there's really only three ways he could be so qualified: Special Forces, Delta Force, or the ISA. There's just no other way he could have gotten all those slots in Language school, and Intel School... not in the modern Army. And so if he served with Hawk previously, and we know Hawk wasn't in SF, and AF says Hawk was in Delta... Delta seems like the best plausible explanation for Stalker.

The crap with Scarlett is quite possibly my least favorite part about the IDW title. It's just crazy. I didn't like her attitude in the old Marvel run, she's even worse now. Her crazy business with Snake-eyes wouldn't just get her kicked off the team, it would get her thrown in prison.

Hey guys, I posted this once before in Joe toys--and no one took the question, or answer seriously. So I'll try here in a more "matter of fact" thread.
Ice-Viper. Why in the world would they have given him Sais for weapons. The filecard says he gets Eel training, and Techno-Viper training. He is able to drive and repair the Cobra Wolf in what could be the most harsh and hostile enviroment. It doesnt say anything about Martial Arts, Ninjutsu or even Hand To Hand Combat as a Secondary. I'm probably giving it too much thought--I think of it like Black Hawk Down, could you imagine the pilot holding off the rebels by throwing Shurukens at them through the cock pit? If some light anti-armor was to disable a Cobra Wolf--this guy doesnt have a chance in hell. UNLESS--we are to believe that because of his weapon and perhaps with the ninja craze--he is in fact some sort of ninja. Or--Maybe I missed something, but with the Eel training comes some sort of hand to hand specialty?? |

PV, I think it's just a case of Hasbro going for the "cool" over the real. Ice-Viper shouldn't have sais. Really makes no sense.

Or--Maybe I missed something, but with the Eel training comes some sort of hand to hand specialty?? Eels are trained in "Underwater Fighting Techniques" which presumably includes edged weapons and knife fighting.. not to mention that Eels come with knives as accessories. There was a huge interest in Ninjas in the 80's, so Hasbro was probably playing off that. However, in extremely cold temperatures, a good knife (or bladed weapon) can be more realiable than a firearm. If Eels are trained with knife fighting, and Ice Vipers are more advanced than Eels, Sais would seem like an advanced knife fighting technique. That's about the best guess I can offer. Hope that helps.

Ah good enough for me.
I'm all about the ninja stuff in my Joe lore, but in his case I think a small sub machine gun or a pistol would have made more sense. Then again, we're talking 1987--you werent gonna tell the "hardcore" Ninja fans that sais arent as reliable as Springfiled Armory |

They're huge Ice-Picks for making Vodka Tonics or Smoothies depending if they are on duty or off.
Well I could see them being a useful tool for breaking ice off the tracks on the WOLF. They would have to do it themselves. Ice-Vipers are probably the hardest trained of all Cobra Forces. But Tiger tanks invading Russia had that problem of mud getting caked in the treads and then freezing. Unless you have a flamethrower I assume an ice pick will probably be your best friend. Although I'm sure it's really just some Hasbro crap they tought up. "Quick Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are kicking our ass, give the guy some Sais like Raphael and Michelangelo!"

/facepalm What kind of fanboy are you? So guess it could go either way. There is a way to make it plausible for them to have sais if really need to justify 'em. The idea of a searchable wiki-kind of thing of the Joes organized by branch, rank, PMS, SMS and comments, is kicking around in my head... Dammit.. I have enough projects/sites to work on... But...
