Yeah, I agree
The BBI and such is REALLY nice, but also expensive. I don't have that kind of cash to throw around. I still have yet to get the True Heroes Blackhawk or SEaL boat. But I want both.

Yeah, no doubt it's expensive, but it does fly way faster than a helicopter and it's more feul efficient. It takes far less gas for a long trip simply because it flies like an airplane, and using wings to create lift is always more efficient that having to constantly turn a rotor to stay airborne.

Thanks for the info, Loose. I recently saw a program on the military channel about how they're trying to replace the Chinooks with the Ospreys. In a lot of catagories it's an improvement, but it doesn't seem like the Osprey can lift nearly as much weight.

15,000 on the Osprey vs 28,000 on the Chinook
It makes sense, to me, to keep both in operation. They both have different uses. The Osprey is to get troops to the zone faster and further away. The Chinook would be more of an armor/vehicle carrier.

I would say carrying capacity is better for sure on the Chinook, but most Chinooks have been in service for 30+ years. Besides I think the Marines still use the Sea Stallion which looks like it will soon get an upgrade and it is pretty comparable to the Chinook in carrying capacity.
I remember watching something about Apache pilots had to escort Chinooks and people don't realize that the Chinook is actually faster than the Apache due to the double props. I wonder if the Osprey roles with some sort of escort? No Helicopter is that fast or has that kind of range. still $68million is a lotta dough. Here's a list of active US military Aircraft: List of active United States military aircraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Although the Army has a lot of Chinooks (New ones coming too), the Marines have cast those off like a bad habit, and are going straight Osprey. 547 Planned! (I doubt we see half) I wonder if the Marines are expanding?

Hey Oliver,
Do you have any of the ODA figures from Marine_Deadpool yet? I know he had some posted a year or so ago, but hows about a pictoral update?

The V-22 is certainly an interesting bird. I'd be interested to see what the emergency procedures are for an engine failure during rotation of the nacelles. Horizontal flight must be pretty slow during the transition so Vmc must be pretty low or else the aircraft would just turn over on itself during an engine failure.

That's too technical for me.
I just like looking at it, lol I'd love to see one lift off. I wonder if there's substantial shifting, like a bump, when the engines go from vertical to horizontal. I wonder if it drops during the shift. The engines are still going, so wouldn't it move upwards at an angle when the engines are at 45 degrees?

Well I'm assuming it begins to move forward in the same manner a helicopter does and as it gains airspeed the wings start producing lift, which compensates for the decrease in lift as the rotors begin to turn into the horizontal position, and as they turn into the horizontal position they produce more thrust, thus increasing airspeed and lift. It really is amazing technology when you think about it.
