Well, there's no argument that the timing of the term "LRRP" was off on Recoil's file card. I figured that they used that term for Recoil simply because the term "LRRP" had already been so firmly established in the Joe mythos. It would be a little confusing for kids to have to explain, "Hey kids, remember how we've taught you all about LRRPs with your buddies Snake-Eyes, Stormshadow, and Stalker? Remember how practically all the continuity goes back to that LRRP team? Well, now we're going to call LRRPs something else called LRS teams... OK? Thanks kids."
So, for all intents and purposes, I think they were just trying to tell people what he did by using a term that was already firmly established in the Joe continuity. Even if it wasn't up to date with Army regulations and nomenclature. I always thought there were tons of other units they could have created figures for but never did, like LRS, PJs, combat controllers, Marine scout/snipers, etc. |

So I was reading a blurb about the new A Team movie and I was surprised to see that they are portrayed as ex Rangers. I always thought they were a little more than that, say Special Forces at least, but I can't remember if it was ever clear in the tv series what their background was. Thoughts?

Are you talking about the ghost team Tracker that you have, Oliver, or was there another one?

Murdock was in the Air Force. He was their pilot, but was not part of the SFOD-A in 'Nam. There's a trial for the A-Team at the end of Season 4, and all this is made clear. It's the reason that Murdock can hide in plain sight by checking into mental clinics - he's not technically wanted like the other 3 are. The comic also lists B.A. as a Corporal instead of a Sergeant. Stupid.

Exactly right. The "Ghost Team" version that I have was an unproduced Night Force Tracker. It shows up on ebay every now and then.

I want to argue that Tracker should be a qualified Sniper. Many Navy SEALs are trained as Snipers, but for him to be that proficient as a tracker, he must have learned those skills somewhere.
The SEALs have their own 4-week Sniper course, but is it possible that a SEAL might get sent to the Marine Scout/Sniper course? There are 4 places the Marines train Scout Snipers, and Quanitco and Hawaii are both close to places where SEAL teams are stationed. Does anyone know if that's possible?

Supposedly the school in Hawaii was open to other services( at least in 2003) and the one in Quantico has trained some SEAL officers. The mission statement for the Scout Sniper Basic Course mentions other services, but the prereqs keep using the term Marine instead of student. It's probably more likely to train in-house with the SEALs or at the Army's Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC) at JFK Special Warfare Center. Not impossible, just very rare. The SEALs have been moving toward handling all their own training over the past decade or so. They started their own jump school a few years ago (basic and MFF). The SOCM course is one of the few things they can't duplicate in-house.
What prompted my original question was Red Cell... I recently read that in Marcinco's Red Cell team, he had about 12 SEALs from SEAL Team 6 and one USMC Recon Scout/Sniper. I've always thought it was interesting that Marcinco recruited a Marine Sniper instead of using a SEAL sniper. So I just wondered if a SEAL would ever be sent to the USMC Scout/Sniper course.

Thanks for the info, Blackrazor. Tell me a little more about "SOCM". I'm not familiar with that acronymn. I'd also like to hear a little more about SOTIC.
