Well, Zulu does a lot of interesting things. And I'm not throwing any rocks; his work is interesting and I enjoy reading his take on the characters. However, he's been known to change a few details now and then. Like I said, I own the figure... there is another African-American Sigma 6 figure (Heavy Duty) to use for comparison. Desert Wolf is nowhere close to that skin tone, though he certainly is more tan than the white guys in that series of figures. Look, let's be honest: Hasbro usually doesn't give us racially ambiguous characters; there are no light-skinned African-American Joes. All the African-Americans on the team are all fairly dark skinned. There's no mistake about their race.

How's he compare to Long Range, who is hispanic, lighter or darker?
Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I've just always taken him for african american.

I'm not trying to make an issue out of this or anything. It's just that the diversity of the Joe team was always one of the best things about the whole continuity (in my opinion). And it bothers me when Hasbro messes with the Gender/race of established characters. I'm glad for characters like Long Range, Desert Wolf, and Shipwreck because there aren't enough Latino/Hispanic characters. Some of the Puerto Rican soldiers I knew in the Army were some of the best soldiers I knew.

I never considered Shipwreck latino. As a kid the name never jumped out at me and the cartoon Shipwreck was a white boy, and comics never appeared enough to define a personality or history.

Speaking of new characters....
IDW Joe #16, Destro's assistant Glynis betrays him and sides with Cobra and is given the name: Copperback.

Damn don't have that issue yet. Well he did kill her father.
Shipwreck never came off as Hispanic to me either, but then again neither does Tony Romo, or Cameron Diaz. I believe there is a large White Hispanic Population who picks and chooses which ever classification they most identify with. I'm guilty of that from time to time, but I'm mixed White/Hispanic. I prefer Ethno-American actually. I think you can use Latino or Hispanic interchangeably. I don't see a difference. As far as Desert Wolf maybe he's the Halle Berry of the Joes?

So, "Hispanic" means "Mexican" and "Latino" means "From any other Spanish Speaking country in the Western Hemisphere"? Is that right?

Latino refers to all people from Latin America. Hispanic is a broader term referring to all Spanish-speaking people in any hemisphere. A person from Spain living in the US is Hispanic, not Latino. However, some Latinos consider Hispanic to be offensive, even though culturally it just refers back to Spanish origins.
And Mexican-Americans refer to themselves as Chicano, not Latinos.

No problem, Oliver. So does anyone know when the free Big Lob ships out? I don't know why I'm excited about this figure. As a kid I would have said pass...but getting a new figure and an O-ring to boot is pretty cool, especially since we're not going to see anything new for awhile.
