Yeah. Somewhere people forgot that you can have great looking/designed vehicles that actually would work in the real world.

One of the biggest problems with some of the vehicles in the Star Wars prequel trilogy is that they're specifically designed for a particular scene and very little thought was given to whether or not they're even remotely practical otherwise.
Alot of Joe vehicles have a similar problem. They're designed to look cool but would be utterly ridiculous in reality.

Why are you suddenly looking for reality in Star Wars, when the original trilogy was just as fantastical. In terms of Joe vehicles, most of the COBRA vehicles are chose style over practicality. Some vehicles were meant to be next next gen vehicles. Some vehicles have inspired some people to think outside-the-box. Some vehicles are old designs taken to the next level. It's a line meant for kids to let their imaginations flow.
And I don't think the same is true for the original trilogy. Most of the gear in those movies look like they belong in that universe and could be used practically. The landspeeder is simply a teenage farmboy's car. Yes, to the viewer it's fantastical because it doesn't exist in our reality. But it looks right at home in the fictional universe on screen. A lot of the vehicles in the prequel trilogy, in my opinion, don't. As for Cobra vehicles, I think we all realize it's a line for kids and that imagination plays a large part. But as the Joe line progressed, the vehicles went from reasonably realistic but still "out there" enough to be fun to totally impractical even by kids toyline standards. |

Its kind of weird when the prequel vehicles are better and more advanced then the later ones.

Yeah, I still don't understand the point of filming them out of order. Makes me wondering what the OT would look like if he filmed them in order. If he had kept on schedule, we'd be sitting around complaining about Episode 9 already.

OTOH, it may just be because the episodes 4,5,6 were shot 30 years ago and it wasn't so easy to do computer graphics ;) |

Well, there is some justification here - many Greek tragedies were in trilogy form, and they often wrote the middle one first, then the first one, then the last. Back when Lucas was still going to do nine movies, he was sticking to that structure (middle, first, last).

And with Star Wars, the middle was the best part to begin at.
Which is better? Showing a rebellion against an evil empire or showing how that empire came to be?

True, but the Clone Wars was supposed to be a much bigger event. They were supposed to show an army of Mandolorian Super Commandoes. They cut the war too short.

Lucas didn't have anything written for the prequel when he wrote the OTC anyway. The clone wars didn't exist in any real development other than Ben's brief remark in A New Hope. Lucas decided to focus on that because fans were always asking what the clone wars were, etc. The prequels are really just Lucas retconning stuff from the trilogy if I recall correctly.
