I like the idea of Spearhead as a Ranger, he's one of my faves. I'd like to think that being such an elite unit, most if not all the army infantry guys would have passed through ranger school at some point. I know some guys are picked for technical proficiency in their specific MOS but yeah, most ruck infantry I'd expect to be ranger qualified.
Anyway, most normal "line" Infantry in the Army don't do a lot of training in combatives. However, the Marine who basically invented and developed their fighting style now works for the Ranger Regiment and developed their combatives. So in the Army, the only guys who are really doing Hand-to-Hand training are the Rangers. So all the Infantry Joes who are in the Army, and are listed as "Hand-to-Hand Combat Instructors" would probably be Rangers.

MCMAP(Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) aka Semper Fu. Before that it was LINE training.

Hey did anybody see that crazy "beach-head" thread from earlier? The guy who started it was like: why do people like Beach-Head? He's just a Firefly rip-off... what's the big deal?
I feel like if the guy really wanted to know what was up with Beach-Head, he would have come to this thread and asked us. It's like the guy didn't even want to take time to read the file cards. Lame. |

Yeah, I posted on that thread as well, and so far no one has responded. I think it was a pretty ridiculous thread. Beach-Head is easily one of the most qualified, lethal Joes on the team. I can't imagine why any Joe fan wouldn't like him.

Thanks, Jim. I couldn't recall the official name. It seems like a good program from what I've read.

Not a problem Oliver. You posted way more in depth and detailed then I did. I did mention he was listed as a Green Beret, Tiger Force leader and a few other positions he's held and the op apparently had never looked at all the file cards.
From what I have read the Marines program is excellent and offers more less lethal hand to hand options than LINE and previous training had. |

I use him as a separate character called "Jaguar."
But why not? I feel like all the other Survival guys are probably Green Berets too, like Outback, and Big Brawler, and Recondo, and just about any other Joe with a beard or serious facial hair. Speaking of Green Berets I just watched Rambo for the first time. That was an amazingly over-the-top bloodbath. Some cheesy moments but I loved it. Makes me appreciate my lazy Rambo custom even more. |

Interesting points about Spearhead. Given his skills in finance and the fact that he's had some post secondary education, i would think that might make him a bit older by the time he reached the Joe. Given that, most of the Joes must be in their late 20's/early 30's by the time they're tapped for the team. I cant see too many troops in their early 20's on the team.

So I agree Spearhead is probably a Ranger, or a Corporal who is about to go to Ranger School since that sort of makes him an NCO. There aren't to many Hand to Hand combat instructors in the Joes but lets see:
Grid-Iron, which doesn't make sense for an officer to be doing that, but as a Infantry Officer you long proved the case to me Oliver that he is most likely a Ranger school grad anyway. Budo? Dojo? Storm Shadow you figure sure, he's with SE and Stalker. Not sure about the rest of the rest of Ninja Force and there difference Fighting style instructor backgrounds. Nunchuku instructor? Who am I missing. I feel like there is another non Ninja Hand to Hand guy. |
