I was poking around the filecards and I actually read the Mail away Storm Shadow filecard. It's like I never read it before. I have like 10 of those.
YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Storm Shadow Hard Master is his Father, (Which I like) Infiltrated by a Cobra Ninja, (It doesn't say who, but Shadow Strike's filecard gives a similar story) Clan split in two with Snake-EYes getting the blame, (I like that too) Still what is the other half of the clan that isn't with Storm-Shadow? |

Hmm, I'm not so keen. The changes don't make much difference to the SS character (except to make him want revenge on SE rather than on Cobra, but that could have been achieved within the existing canon I think). And in that case why bother changing the back story at all?
Hard Master from uncle to father makes no real difference to the story, so why change it? And having the blame fall on SE is a way of directing SS's revenge, but SS always had a chip on his shoulder about being disinherited in the Marvel run anyway, so why not use that as the revenge motive and keep the backstory intact? Wow the original filecard made me cry. Civil Air Patrol to skydiving. Rereading the card and thinking back to my time in Civil Air Patrol at the airshows. I cant think of anyone that was in my FLIGHT that wanted to be a skydiver. We were more interested in the helicopters or The WWII dogfight re-enactments or the Vietnam F-4's bombing re-enactments. It almost sounds like Ripcord was a lame civilian skydiver. Im glad they recovered with Slipstream.
The new "ROC" Ripcord took the asvab test and didnt qualify for jet pilot. So he went around the test and became a fighter pilot. Edit: Just like when I took the asvab and wanted to join the Navy for Religion Programs, my recruiter said I didnt qualify, So I just didnt join. Kinda regret that I didnt see if I could make the Air Force equivalent. I went for the "new" Civil Defense.

I like my Storm Shadow evil. I don't want him to really be that "Honorable." He's a ninja he should be ruthless.

I don't like the changes to the card. Don't make much sense.

I like Storm-Shadow to be a nuanced character, whether he's a "good guy" or a "bad guy" is something of a secondary concern for me.
I don't like him or just about any major villain (such as Cobra Commander, Destro, and Baroness) being portrayed as being one-dimensionally "evil," and this was one of my major problems with the portrayal of the villains in GI Joe Resolute. I was scratching my head when all the comments started coming in about how "mature" Resolute was... I think most people were just responding to the graphic violence, but in terms of characterization, Resolute was about as mature as a Rob Liefeld comic book: populated with one-dimensional, overly-simplified archetypes and put-on macho posturing... seriously, the scenes with Roadblock, Gung-Ho, Destro, and Stalker talking were just hilarious... like a bunch of 1980s pro wrestlers with bad mic skills doing their cheesiest best (or is it worst?). |

I agree. Resolute was really nothing more then a graphic (better choice of words then mature) Sunbow episode.
It was cool and all but there's a reason Hasbro pushed it aside.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Resolute for what it was (and the technical animation was very good for a niche-market feature), I just didn't understand the thinking that led a lot of fans to anoint it as "GI Joe for grown-ups." In my experience, graphic and gratuitous violence in animation (which I actually appreciate in the right context), more often than not, serves to cover up how adolescent a feature's plot or story actually is (think Dragonball Z or Naruto).

True.
Take a show like Disney's Gargoyles. That show was mature. The depth of the storytelling and the background on the characters. The actions and motivations of those characters. That was a well written and mature show. Resolute was only mature in the sense it was more graphic. The more I watch Resolute, the less I like it.

Heh. The way I avoid that effect is to just put on "critical blinders" when watching it. Just take it for what it is and focus on the parts I enjoy (the technical animation and most of the character and prop designs) and pretty much ignore the parts I don't like (the writing, the bulk of the voice acting, and some of the directorial/storyboard choices). Otherwise I'd just tear my hair out.
