Since Duke was SF and in Vietnam during the late 60s, he was probably assigned to 5th SFGA since they were the acting HQ for SF at Nha Trang and had the most training camps throughout the country, though the early SF advisors and instructors in Vietnam were pulled from the 1st SFGA.

Apparently, Rudat is an avid Civil War re-enactor and amateur historian, so he'd occasionally throw classic Civil War gear on the Joe designs. Cross-Country (kepi hat and Confederate flag belt buckle), Heavy Metal (Confederate soldier "CS" belt buckle) and Dusty (havelock) all sport Confederacy-inspired costume elements while Flint (Union soldier "US" belt buckle), Wild Bill (Civil War-era Union Cavalry hat), and Spirit (Union Ordnance sergeant's chevrons) all have Union-inspired costume elements. |

If Duke worked with Flint and Roadblock prior to the Joe Team, it's more than possible that they all worked together at Bragg in 7th Group.

Arabic, Hebrew, Kazahk and Khalkha (see 1991 filecard). I always wondered why they never included the FAMAS among his weapons qualifications.
I think his figure has worn 4 different berets: a tan/khaki beret (which was probably just colored to match his desert uniform), a maroon beret, a black beret for the Night Rhino Dusty, and a green beret for the paratrooper Dusty. None of them make any sense. I don't know if he was supposed to be a French Legionaire because he was born in Nevada and I'm not sure if you can join the Legionaires as an American citizen, but perhaps you could train with them through some exchange program. The one thing that is interesting is that he had a pre-enlistment application with GI Joe, sort of like like the Initial Accession program that exists for SFAS today. I'd say it's safe to conclude that Dusty had to undergo a variety of special training and courses before taking the Joes version of SFAS. I saw a documentary on the Foreign Legion once, and they interviewed several Americans who had joined the Legion. They had a recruiting station in New Orleans (and I imagine they have others, like in L.A.). So as far as I know, American citizens can join the Legion without committing a criminal offense. I've also heard of American's joining the British military. I imagine it's not illeagal so long as it's a country we're allied with.

Yeah, that's the thing. It's obviously Dusty's v3 mold, but it's never officially mentioned to be Dusty. Without a filecard, that figure is little more than a troop builder. But come to think of it, it would be a great "Royal Marine" troop builder.

Basically Hasbro screwed up the berets all around.
