Heh, Tho can they look useful out of their preferred enviroment? Dusty is ok, because he's in Roadblock's "TIGER FORCE". But Snow Job he's in "NIGHT FORCE" Outback's Sniper Team. So unless his mission is on the east coast with 20+ inches of snow on the ground his outfit might be a tad too warm and not in keeping with the perfect camo scheme.
Tho I can see Snowjob pulling a fast one on a new transfer a minute before wheels up, "Yeah Im Outback. Take apart your piece and clean it!" |

I'm putting together a GI Joe Sapper Team. I'm gathering equipment and personnel as I write this.
Team Leader - Lt. Breach Demolitions and Mines Specialist - Det Cord Field Fortifications and Obstacles Specialist - Concertine Bridging and Rigging Specialist - River Rat (I know it's close to Tunnel Rat, but that's actually a nick name given to bridge engineers) Of course as Sappers, they all should be experts in all these tasks, but that's no fun when putting a team together. |

So I've been thinking about making this less of a mechanic and ground crew nightmare. Since my Joe team is Company sized, I might be able to get around most of my logistical nightmare by camoflauging the pilots of the aircraft as Reserve Army and Air Force crews. But in "reality" its an elite fighting force. I noticed the Reserve Unit at McConnell only supplies the aircrews, while the Active wing supplies the maintenance crew and Aircraft.
Now is loading a rhino or an armadillo onto a C-141 or a C-5 conspicious at an AFB? It's sorta weird our Active 22nd Refueling Operations Group is named after our 44 foot statue of an indian chief, Wichita recieved for the bi-centinniel celebration in 1976 near downtown "The Keeper of the Plains". Our 184th Intel Wing Air National Guard is named "The Jayhawks", which doesnt operate aircraft anymore. No F-4's, no F-16's, no B-1's, flyovers used to be fun and exciting. Now, when a KC-135 flies over it feels like we've become the gas station in the sky. :-S

The support and maintenance staff is always where the Joe's get messed up and complicated. How that stuff gets handled if it's a secret unit? Or is it a known but elite unit that can use the other assets on an as-needed basis?
And the personal nightmare that the Flagg alone presents.... I think each verse has to be worked at first how they're integrate and work within the existing military structure and assets and then grow from there. For the arctic and desert guys... I don't really specify jungle as a "trained" environment, anyone can just up and go and be functional in that one. The naval stuff is handled by the SEaLs andn Marines. Arctic and Desert guys receive specialized survival and operations training for those environments but they start off as regular infantry and rangers. Snow Job is a sniper, Iceberg is a SAW, Blizzard is the arctic recon and so on... Poor Dusty is all alone, lol

Yeah, if your Joe is unit is gonna be larger than a company, you'll need to incorporate green shirts, white shirts, blue shirts, etc to fill all the support roles. Since I'm using various elements of armor and aviation and treating the Joes like a more integrated, more elite version of the Rangers, I don't see the Joes as a secret unit, but one that often conducts covert and clandestine missions. Keeping it a secret unit doesn't have much benefit, especially when, sooner or later, their cover gets blown. How many operations can they conduct before someone finds evidence of their existence. Then what do they do? However, GI Joe doesn't have to publicized as a special force or elite unit in order to help obscure/disguise the purpose of their development.

I guess I run into the problem of a two Cobra Universe.
On one hand I have them as a sort of quasi-legitimate private military company, which makes the joes fighting them almost impossible. Aside from when they are on opposing sides, of a civil war, they would never come into contact against each other. So the joes are fighting mostly less sophisticated terrorists or armed militias and so they pretty much always win. On the other hand Cobra is a secret organization and the Joes have to be beyond secret. I like both. |

Alternatively, if you think the Joe team is regiment-sized, you can give the Joe team the equivalent of its own special troops battalion. The 75th Ranger Regiment recently got its own STB to take care of stuff like HR administration, maintenance, and other combat support and combat service support concerns. Members of the 75th RR's STB aren't Rangers per se since they don't have to go through the Ranger Indoctrination Program (they only have to be Airborne-qualified, although many of the STB members have actually gone through RIP because some of them have served with the Ranger battalions' headquarters companies), but they're still considered an organic part of the Regiment. Theoretically, the 75th RR's STB is open to women, too (since RIP -- a males-only qualification program -- isn't a requirement), which fits in with how the Joe team has been portrayed in the comics and the cartoons. |

Hey Guys,
I've been out of town for the past week. Hope y'all are doing well. Troy, I got your PM: WOW! Congratulations, buddy. In other news, while I was traveling, I went into a TJ Maxx and found a Clear Wraith Variant. I was very pleased: $4. So that was pretty fun. Also, I've noticed these "The Corps: Battle Zone Towers". I think these would make a pretty cool Battle Tower - not neccisarily for the Joes, but maybe for a third world Terrorist Army Base or something. They also come in Red, so I'm thinking they might work great for the parameter of a Crimson Guard Base. Anyone else use these? Speaking of "off-brand" military Action figures, has anyone seen the new True Heroes "Base" at TRU. It's about $35, and I'm thinking it might work really well for a base for Tiger Force in the Jungle, or the Desert. Anyone seen/have one of these?

Seen the True Heroes base, haven't spent much time staring at it.
I've seen the CORPS and the only thing preventing me from getting it... no ladder.... Just doesn't work without a ladder. But they're only ten bucks, can get a ladder easy enough I suppose....
