I like the idea of green shirts, where they can be killed without necessarily killing fave characters but it detracts from the idea of the Joes being an elite unit. IMHO anyway.
I can see them being trainee or probationary joes or like Oliver uses them, members of tank crews etc (given their own code names ) but as infantry? I don't think so. In my Joeverse, the entire Joe Team is really more like a smaller verison of the Marine Corps, rather than Special Forces or something. What I mean is, they're all elite to a point, but some are much more elite than others. A regular Marine Typing Clerk is probably a pretty tough individual - he made it through Marine Basic Training, etc. But the Typing Clerk isn't going to be like the Marines in MARSOC. That's how my Joe Team Works - It's almost like it's own branch of the Military (which is why I think of it as a separate DoD asset). It has a Commander (Gen. Hawk), Army Command (General Flagg), Air Command (Gen. Payload), Naval Command (Admiral Keel Haul), and Special Operations Command (Gen. Colton). From there it breaks down even further. I've got whole charts of the chains of command. It's a large collection, and there are a lot of vehicles. So "Regular Joe Army Infantry" is pretty low on the totem pole. They're the bulk of ground forces if the "real" Joes need to be reinforced, but they're not deployed in every mission. Most of the missions are done by the Sub-Teams, which all fall under G.I. Joe - Special Operations Command (G-SOC), and G-SOC is then further divied into G-SOAR (G.I. Joe - Spec. Ops Air Rgmt.) commanded by LTC Skystriker, G-NavSpec (Naval/Marine Special Warfare) Commanded by Commander Magnum, and Army Spec Ops commanded by General Rey. Intel is commanded by LTC Sure-Fire, and Urban Warfare is Commanded by Major Bullet-Proof. I hope I'm making sense.

My joe-verse, is a small company size force with limited assets. I only use characters I have in the Modern-Era Joe line, or soon to be released Joes. So Joes arent expendable. Also, I use 7 female Star Wars figures, some women are short, I use them as the GI JOE Juliet Squad-Color Guard. I use green shirts heads from the Toys R Us exclusives, But I dont consider them green shirts. I put those on other bodies and name them, Buffalo Wing, Topside and Hatch. The 4th head looks too much like my Greenside (Thunderclash) figure.
I really need to work on my Cobra idea for this universe so I know how the joes can counter-act Cobra, I was really impressed with the idea put forth here, about the Rattlesnake-Dont Tread on Me example. Really reminded me about the CBS series Jericho with Jennings & Rall. I just picked up the dvd set of FX series' "Over There". WOW! It's extreme and eye opening. |

or: I hope you guys enjoy it. I've watched it a few times and I've gotten a good laugh out of it every time. I'm really bummed about this. Headman and I were not close, but he was a friend and we exchanged PM's a few times. But when I was crusing through a thread, and I'd see his Avatar, my face would light up and I would say, "I don't what he's about to say, but it's going to be good"... and the man never disappointed me. I used to scroll through the list of "New Threads" just to see if he had started any, or if he had posted anything lately, because no matter what the subject was, he was funny. And his posts & threads were anything but SPAM to me. The Tank is a little colder now. It's less witty; it's less fun. We've seen a lot of Tankers leave lately, but today I feel like I've lost a friend. More than that, we've lost a popular member of this community who had over 5,000 posts. He was a pillar of this forum. Perhaps the highest compliment I can pay him is this: Things can get heated on the Tank. People get in arguments over trivial things. Insults get thrown. Rudeness ocurrs. My own posts tend to often be more serious. I post about the intricacies of the Joe continuity, or I get in detailed arguments about minutia. I get wrapped up in trying to articulate my views on G.I. Joe logical. My posts might be called informative or well written, but they are often fairly boring. The Tank can be, at times, an angry and dull place with a lot of internet fury signifying nothing. However, with a razor wit, and a sense of humor that was often bawdy and careless, Headman was our court jester who, without malice, always reminded me that toys were supposed to be fun, and that we're here on the Tank to have a good time. It is a rare gift to be able to convey humor with such clarity and brevity through writing; it is even more rare to find such writing in a forum such as ours. He was a comedic genius, and my time on the Tank has been better for him having been here with us. His leaving is our loss, because a man like that will never have any trouble finding an audience.

Exactly. Cobra has expendable minions, so the Joes needed some too.

Hey Man, don't let that get to you. We're glad you're on the Tank. Stick with us; the search feature can be a pain, but there's a lot of good reasons to stay. We just lost Headman today - he was a nice guy, very funny, and I'm going to miss him. So I'd hate to lose you too.

If you saw the way I have my Joeverse structured, it would make more sense to use Green Shirts as Infantry. They make up the bulk of my regular Joe Infantry. Nothing fancy. None of them are on my Ranger Team. They just fill gaps in support roles, primarily... and I needed a lot of Tank drivers. Y'all would be stunned if you knew how many tanks I own.

I like your set up and the way you described it, green shirts DO work in that context..hmmm..might've changed my mind |

Spashdown is the name I chose for a Navy Helo pilot? I was going after the idea of the Navy pilots who retrieved the Astronauts during the 50's and 60's. The head of ROC Desert Assault Duke on ROC Wild Bill's Body.
Also the ROC Jungle Ripcord, in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen, the Air Force Helicopter pilots name is Redtail. I like to spread out my unit over the 4 branches if I can get away with them being in another service so be it. So far my GI JOE team has 6 persons squads with hopefully an advancement to a 9 person squad Pentagon Liason: Col Hawk Company CO: Maj Duke Company Sgt: SgtM. Stalker Top Shirt Staff: Snake Eyes & MSgt Scarlett 1st Platoon is led by Capt. Falcon and WO Flint. -1 Squad of Marines led by MSgt Stone -4 Squads of Army Infantry led by -- MSgt Grunt -- MSgt Ripcord -- MSgt Roadblock -- SgtM. Beach Head Naval Detachment is led by Lt Cutter and WO Torpedo -1 Squad of Navy Seals led by MCPO Santa -1 Squad of VBSS Crewmen led by SCPO Hatch Headquarters Platoon is led by Capt Psyche-out and WO Chuckles. -1 Squad of Urban "Hotel" Team led by MSgt Shockwave -1 Squad of Intel Team led by SMSgt Lady Jaye USAF -1 Squad of Color Guard led by Sgt Molly, USMC Company Assets: (4-6 person team) -1 Squad of Vehicle Assault Drivers led by WO Trakker & MSgt Heavy Metal -1 Squad of Fixed Wing Pilots led by Maj Cactus, USMC -1 Squad of Rotary Wing Pilots led by Capt Red-Tail, USAF -1 Squad of Medics led by SCPO Greenside, USN All ranks for enlisted are E-6 and above except for Tripwire and the Color Guard Squad. Sorry, the Color Guard inspiration was the marvel issue, when the Generals were grandstanding the MOBAT and the episode 'The Viper is Coming'. I had to find something suitable for Juliet Squad. lol. Even got the cheer uniforms designed for them. Now if I can customize the uniforms on better than plastic tape. lol Intel finds out Cobra is having a "Recruitment Drive" at the parade. We have a unit to blend in their surroundings to counteract the success of cobra or to tell the Urban "Hotel" Squad to leap into action if there is the risk to civilian life or property damage.
