There's the line in Chuckles filecard that he's been under cover so long no one knows who he's working for.
Provost and CID could very well be a cover. I loved the use of Chuckles, Lady Jaye and Pysche-Out in that one issue of Special Mission. Sorry Oliver, had missed the Chuckles theory until now. CID guys do work undercover. The main character in the General's Daughter, Paul Brenner (who my Belvoir is based on) is a CID guy and first see him undercover trying to bust an arms smuggling ring.

Sorry, Zulu. I wrote that all last night at about 3:00 am, so I wasn't thinking clearly. You're right, it's Phillip M. Provost... the the alliterative nature of the name sounds phony to me.

Yeah, besides, didn't they asked Hama to write GI Joe after everyone else turned it down. I don't think it was the kind of stuff that "serious" writers wanted to do and Larry may have felt the same way. It was a job not necessarily his passion. The comic series seemed to succeed in spite of itself.

It's interesting how we put more thought into some characters than others. Chuckles never crossed my mind much until the new Cobra series. His garish colors never appealed to me before and he seemed like Joe filler, sort of like Fast Draw, who was never really interesting to me either. I'd actually like to know what charcters didn't make the cut. I'm sure Rudat drew some characters that Hama may or may not have drawn bios for that never made it past the design stage.

I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the new IDW comics but I absolutely loved the Cobra 4-part series starring Chuckles. And he definitely seems like CIA to me. |

Certainly the figure looked cool/interesting (as he contrasted with the majority of the rest of the line in military clothing) but he never really had much of a run in the Marvel series afair and also seemed like a bit of a filler character to me.
I like the CIA idea and it is nice to see the IDW guys bringing some of the more obscure characters to life. |

In the movie Green Beret, with John Wayne, there was a young soldier called Provost. He would be seriously wounded half way through the movie. His last request was to have something named after him because it would sing. It was the Provost Privy.

Maybe he is just a solid PiMP. I don't know, I would rather have hokey names than have them re-used with new code names with the new releases. He is my favorite joe, I really need someone to paint me a Tiger force Chuckles with a tiger striped shirt and some tan pants, and some sun glasses to boot. But I see provost and automatically assume Provost Marshall's office, and see a conection there |

from wikipedia- The Provost Marshal is the officer in the armed forces who is in charge of the military police (often called the provost). There may be a Provost Marshal serving at many levels of the hierarchy and he may also be the public safety officer of a military installation, responsible for the provision of fire and ambulance services as well as law enforcement. A Provost Marshal may also be in charge of the execution of punishments. |

Yeah, Topside ya got a point. I always felt like we had 2 MP's in 1987. One in civilian clothes and one 'in uniform' on base.
By the way, in my joe-verse, I'm taking a nod from the Winter Olympics. I'm using Hasbro's other product line for this cheap custom. The white outfit Padme Amadala for a female version of a non-Confederate 'Cross Country', SnowJob's partner in a Sniper-Spotter team. Oliverbox, what did you think of my Chaplain Kapaun Memorial HS idea for Flint?
