If he does write back that Falcon went to West Point, he's going to be quoted on that. Will that be permanetly engraved into the GI Joe encyclopedia? lol
Maybe he's just playing it safe so as to not "rock the boat" anymore and end up giving 10 difference fans 10 difference answers. Just my guess.

This has probably been answered...
What was the process for the toy creation? Was the toy made first then a filecard was created based on the toy design or was the toy created based on the file card? Or was the character's first appearance the comics? |

From what I understand, the toy was designed first, and then Larry was hired to create back stories and file cards for them.

You could also make the argument that Snake-Eyes, Hawk, Scarlett, Stalker, Tunnel Rat, Leatherneck, and Steeler existed as Hama's prototype concepts first (from the unused "Fury Force" comic book proposal he wrote for Marvel in 1981) before they were ever toys, but I think it's more of a coincidence than anything else that Hasbro lead toy designer Ron Rudat's designs for certain toys bore startling similarities to the Fury Force designs Hama created, and thus it became convenient for Hama to "recycle" the Fury Force character concepts for the work-for-hire stuff he was doing for Hasbro. Yeah, Zulu's right. As things progress, there was a lot of interplay between Hama and Hasbro in designing these figures.
Seriously, guys, no comments on my Chuckles theory? I was up most of the night thinking that up. And Troynos, it was in response to your "Provost" observation.

Yeah, here's what I said:
First, great catch by Troynos to find the pun in Chuckles' last name... on the other hand, it almost makes you wonder if Chuckles' file name is just an Alias. I mean, "Chuckles" is not much of a code name if your real name is Charles. I knew a guy named Charles, and his older sister called him "Chuckles" as a pet name, sort of a derivitive of "Chuck". Ever watch "Burn Notice"? It's probably my favorite show right now; it comes on USA on Thursday night. Anway, Michael Weston is the main character. He's an ex-Spy who started his career by leaving home and joining the Army... then they get really hazy about what he did in the Army and which branch of the government he really worked for as a spy. That's kind of how I see Chuckles. And the name Provost for a C.I.D. Agent is laughable. In fact, in makes me "chuckle". Sorry, I couldn't resist. But wouldn't Chuckles almost need a fake file name. I mean, the Joes real names got found out by Cobra pretty often. So if Chuckles info is kept at the same level of security as the other Joes, and Cobra can get into their files pretty easily... wouldn't that mean a death sentence for a deep cover operative whose trying to infiltrate Cobra? I mean, the code name "Chuckles" is ridiculous. But Cobra steals his file and looks up his real name: "Provost". The Joke's on them... now the code name makes sense because he's the one laughing at Cobra. On the other hand, Zulu, great catch on Hot Seat. That's a really interesting way to look at it. They could be cousins.

It's interesting. I never did think of it that way, though, unless he's using an alias as part of a larger cover. For some reason, I've always seen Chuckles as more of a CID special agent than as a DIA or CIA core collector or Army counterintelligence special agent (which is how he's often portrayed in the comics). It almost seems like Hama's portrayal of Chuckles in the comics (particularly in GI Joe Special Missions) contradicts the stuff he wrote in Chuckles' filecard. There's nothing in the Marvel comics, as far as I can remember, that made me think he was ever acting in a CID capacity. He was always used in a counterintelligence/HUMINT role. Could be the whole CID thing was just a cover, or more likely, Hama wrote Chuckles as a CID guy in the filecard, but when he got to the point that he had to write him into the comic book, he found that he much preferred using him as a counterintelligence type of guy.

Hama has said that Chuckles was officially a CID agent, but who knows where his career led him from there... and his file card seems to allude to connections to other intelligence agencies. So I'm just saying that a file name like "Charles Provost: C.I.D. Agent" with a code name like 'Chuckles" is a pretty thin cover.

Isn't his name file name "Philip M. Provost," though, and not "Charles Provost?"
