I liked the inclusion of Overlord as Serpentor's General in DDP. I suppose if Overlord made a push for control of Cobra after it was revealed Fred VII wasn't the real CC, then there would be his angle. The CGs fought for Serpentor during the civil war. So after Serpentor is killed, I could see the CGs getting purged. Maybe there would be his angle for wanting control.
Yet if CGs are totally loyal to Cobra Commander, then Overlord would step aside for CC. Plus it was revealed that other Fred Series CGs were watching Fred VII when he shot the commander and thus rescued him from the grave. If Overlord is high enough up he would have known about all along. I see Overlord as more of a General than just a CG. I would say he was a CG of the highest order, and was passed over by the Commander, and will never outrank the Twins, so he went over to Serpentor. (My Joeverse exists in a period with Both CC ad Serpentor Sharing power.) Overlord is the third Highest Cobra due to his Control of armored Forces. He is slightly outranked by Destro. He is a death away from total control, but is loyal to Serpentor, although I don't know why. |

Kinda seems weird in retrospect, that the CGs would back Cobra Commander instead of one of their own (Fred VII). But I guess that's why they are the elite of the Cobra troops (because of their loyalty to the Commander).

Well Maybe Overlord has the same problem Fred VII had? Fred was pissed the Commander wanted to give it all up. What did all the other Crimson Guards think. Maybe they didn't know the Commander was going to turn over a new leaf. But if Overlord felt slighted in some way he may have gone over to Serpentor. Serpentor apparently had an eye for talent the Commander didn't, and rewarded real loyalty, So he claimed. I could see Cobra agents getting fed up with the Cobra system and sought faster advancement through Serpentor.

I still have a problem with a guy called Overlord not being the complete overlord.

While under CC's command, he probably rose to the rank of General and was the CO of the CGs. But after he left Cobra he built his own army, the Coil, and became supreme lord and master. |

I could see Overlord waiting in the wings while CC and Serpentor duke it out, then he takes out the winner and declares himself supreme ruler of Cobra. I was just thinking the original Overlord's design is similar to Rex's from ROC (dark hair, face covered by a mask, wearing a monocle). Cameron Broca, MD sounds very cool. As for alternative Serpentor names, in issue #12, Cobra's front company in Sierra Gordo was Naja Hanna, which according to Hawk in that issue means "King Cobra" in Hindi.

Maybe there is a Truimvirate of power. With Overlord being a very popular and successful General in his own right and gains respect because he rose from the Viper Corps, or was born in a Log Cabin or killed a bear when he was only "3". All kidding aside I'm a fan of Overlord, as he is one of the highest ranking Cobras in my Verse. Still I think the problem with his name being Overlord is that Cobra Commander sounds like he is outranked. CC needs to change his title to King Cobra.

Sorry to change the subject abruptly, but I'd like to ask y'all about another character: Mace.
He's a character that I have a lot of interest in because he's an Intel specialist. He's also an E-8, so he's pretty senior and experienced. He's on the "questionable" list of Marines because his file cards hints at the Corps, but it isn't explicit. That means he the only Naval/Marine Intel specialist in the Joes. An E-8 Intel Specialist... he's on par with Big Brawler. Marine Deadpool and I are planning on doing a small unit of Recon Marines. Gung-Ho, Leathneck, Mainframe will work as the Communications Specialist (I know, I know, he's not really a commo guy... but who else would you go with for Marines?), Sgt. Stone, Hollow Point, and Mace as the Intel Guy. I'm also working on a custom Recoil... It's going to be an updated uniform, but I think it will work really well.

No Bullhorn and Mirage? I don't consider either Marines, but Mace I do. I like Mace for exactly all the things you listed. Plus he seems bigger than most ARAH joes.
I wonder how the various Spec Ops units Intelligence operatives function. I mean there must be an Intelligence Officer/NCO at some level, but is that more at the Battalion level, or is that on the Platoon level? I felt like Mace was a replacement for Chuckles, since why not remake Chuckles. Big Brawler seemed like a replacement for Recondo. I feel like a guy like Recondo should have E-7 reflected on his filecard, but it appears they've pretty much just used the lowest ranks for all the remakes. Except Thunderblast/Thunder is now an E-6 Who are some of the other Intelligence guys? And should that include those listed as "Covert Operations?" |
