That's what the Joes are missing, Combat Weathermen.

All the branches have their units; because, that's were the money is and everyone wants their hand in the pot. Thing is now all the Tier 1 units fall under SOCOM. So now each branch has to develop "spec ops" capabilities in other units or go through SOCOM to use their "own" guys.
The Army appears to use the 10th Mountain and 82nd Airborne. The Air Force splits their guys(PJ's, CCT's,Combat Weathermen) between SOCOM and the regular Air Force. The Marines have upgraded their recon battalions. I'm nt sure what the Navy is doing. But the All the Army's Special Ops units: Delta, ISA, All the SF Groups, The Ranger Regiment, 160th SOAR, 4th PsyOps, 95th Civil Affairs, etc. All of them fall under USASOC, which in turn falls under SOCOM. The 10th Mountain, the 82nd, the 173rd, and the 101st are all good units, but they are all conventional Army units. There's not much that's special about them. The 82nd and the 173rd still jump out of planes, but that's about it. All of the Navy's SEALs are under SOCOM The Marines converted 1st and 2nd Recon Battalions to MARSOC units and added the Marine Advisor Units. MARSOC now falls under SOCOM. The 3rd and 4th Recon Bns are still Marine Corps Assests. So, money that is allocated to "Special Operations Units" is money that goes to and stays with SOCOM. The ARMY doesn't get one big check with a little extra in it for the Green Berets. Those Special Units are specifically earmarked and SOCOM has a separate budget. Even at Ft. Bragg, the 82nd does not benefit from the money that flows through Special Ops. It's entirely separate.

If he came with a camo poncho and some awesome commo gear, I'd be all for it. Honestly, it's not a bad idea. Windspeed for an Airborne jump has to be at or below 12 Knots. Someone has to be on the ground measureing that and radioing to the aircraft.
Outside it's over my knees in Snow and it's turning to Ice... I know because I just walked my huskies. After freezing my toes off, I can say that any soldier who is willing to brave those elements to let the main force know if they can jump or not is OK in my book. ;)

Yeah, there is a futurisitc element when you consider Flash and Cobra's weaponry early on, and the Joes certainly moved toward a high-tech, futuristic unit as the years passed, but most of the Joe equipment was initially based on current and perhaps even some outdated hardware. The Mobat closely resembles the M551, the MMS was based on the MIM-23 Hawk, the Skystriker was clearly an F-14, Zap has a "Bazooka" which was probably meant to be an M67 recoilless gun, which was still referred to (albeit incorrectly) as a bazooka by soldiers in Nam, and of course there's the Nam backstory for Stalker and SE, so I'm not sure they were intentionally trying to distance themselves. There was also another comic series out around the time called Nam which makes me think that Marvel and Hasbro didn't find the Nam backstory too controversial at the time.

Oliver, you have Siberian Huskies? I love those, always wanted one.
Welcome to winter in the North East Oliver, lol But normally we don't get 2 feet at once. What sucks for you guys down there is that you don't get storms like this often and don't have the ability to handle it like we would. Hope alls going well for you in the blizzard. Windspeed's a good name for a Spec Ops Weather Technician. Air Force Special Operations Weather Technician - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Damn! here we have AFN (Armed Forces Network) so no commercials. Instead we have military infomercials. But every once in a while they'll tout a certain units capabilities. Last week was Combat Weathermen. Didn't say much but it seem like they train to do rescues of down pilots. Probably not their MO but if they happen to be on the ground they may be the unit to call.
Yeah It snow's here a ton Oliver, but it gets so nasty, since it's pretty dirty just about everywhere. But nothing like what DC got for Snowmegeddon, and the Snowpocolypse. (Those sound like fun snowed in days.) |

As a former Ranger, I must say that anyone who joins the military, and takes the chance of going to war for 800-1100 dollars a month is badass, be it a Ranger, Green Beret, Seal, Etc.
Another thing is that I know Coast Guard guys who saw more action and killed more people than Green Berets or Seals who trained but never saw combat. Everyone must remember that some guys train their entire careers and never get shipped out. |

Oh yeah, and I am one of them. I stayed in the States almost my entire enlistment except for training. My friend in the Coast Guard has had to shoot people!
Seriously! I jumped out of plains and could kill someone with my bare hands, this guy joined the Coast Guard because he liked boats and needed college money and ultimately had to kill someone!!! That sucks! WTF!!!! |

That's true. I can't imagine the Joes would want to recruit many Direct operations guys who had no experience. Which is why the Vietnam war was crucial to the original development of the story. Although now with the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is a great source of new material. Still the Joes need more of the other services included as well as some government agent, since the Coast Guard is part of Homeland Security.
