Well, if its capabilities are anywhere close to the hype and rumours making the rounds in certain places, I can't see Russia allowing these to be sold to other governments' armed forces unless the economy really starts aching for the money.
For now and for the foreseeable future (at least 5 or 10 years from now), I think most governments who have or are currently developing fifth generation fighters are nationalizing (so to speak) locally-developed fifth generation fighter jet technology in the interests of national security. This is the reason you won't see F-22s in service outside the US anytime soon (even with long-time regional and NATO allies like Canada, the UK, and Australia... they'll all have to settle for the F-35, which is built on a different technology base). |

Interesting. India's one of those countries that people seem to forget has a pretty big industrial base for weapons manufacturing (not to mention that they've got some great indigenous engineering minds). India's been using locally designed and produced assault rifles for several years now... quite a feat, considering that the militaries of most nations use originally sourced copies or licensed derivatives of either the AR15/M16 or the AK-47 for their standard assault weapon. They even beat weapons manufacturing giant China in fielding a locally designed rifle (up until recently, China's standard assault rifle has been a copy of the AK-47, made in state factories).
And just to bring the thread slightly back on topic, it's quite the coincidence that Larry Hama's attempt to disguise Hasbro artist Ronald Rudat's name in Dusty's filecard (for those who've forgotten, Dusty's file name is listed as Ronald Tadur) has resulted in him having an East Indian surname (Tadur, alternatively spelled Tadoor, is a common village name in Andhra Pradesh state in Southeast India, and it is somewhat common practice among certain communities that don't use traditional surnames to adopt the name of their village as their surname for official documentation purposes... in fact, one of Andhra Pradesh's former MPs is named Tadur Bala Goud). A quick google also reveals a Biology professor of presumably East Indian descent teaching at George Mason University named Sateesh Tadur. Seems like a fairly common South Asian surname. That's pretty funny that he inadvertantly did that.
And for a desert trooper, who works over in that area of the world, that's even funnier.

What's also funny is in the 2 part episode "The Traitor", CC refers to him as "Rudat."

On an unrelated note, I've finally found a copy of Mark Bellomo's Ultimate Guide to GI Joe: 1982 - 1994 (2nd ed.) at a local book store. Quite the informative and entertaining book... there's a bunch of stuff in there regarding the unreleased prototype filecards that I never even heard of. Between this and Pablo Hidalgo's book (GI Joe vs. Cobra: The Essential Guide), I'd recommend Bellomo's for the Joe toy collector and/or filecard enthusiast. Hidalgo's book is a better option for people who are just looking to get caught up on the primary post-Marvel GI Joe comic book storylines and the post-Sunbow cartoon mythos without having to wade through synopses on YoJoe.com and the GI Joe wikia, though. |

So you've uncovered two Asian Subcontinenters Zulu. Although Dusty doesn't seem Indian to me, based on the Cartoon and his heavy southern Drawl, what's in a name? His mother most likely wasn't Indian, so that leaves his father. In that episode "The Traitor" was his mother sick or something? Which reminds me, Did Duke get in trouble for not telling anyone he sent Dusty on that mission? Duke seems to like to play with people's lives. Like in DDP when Ripcord's team gets used as bait and Dart ends up crying like a baby. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 02-01-2010 at 03:04 AM.. |
