About a Cobra base... My brother and I had a good conversation last night about Cobra's answer to the Flagg. An Aircraft carrier (or any surface ship) just doesn't work because a satalite could find it - it would just be a matter of time - and then the U.S. Navy would hunt it down and kill it. What's far more useful for Cobra is a huge, nuclear submarine. Obviously it would have to include MARS technology that crossed over into the realm of fantasy, but the basic idea could work pretty well... especially if it included a small flight/landing deck on the top of it. Basically, the top side of this giant sub just needs to be flatened out to allow for small planed and helicopters to land. But if, for example, it could launch Firebats out of tubes like the Terror Drome does, take off becomes much less of an issue.
Like this badboy? We talked about this before when discussing the HSVs. I've seen a better design. |

That's an awesome concept drawing Loose. Where is it from?
Personally, my idea of a submersible aircraft carrier would be a modernised version of the I-400 Class craft that the Japanese Imperial Navy used in WWII. Sort of makes you wonder why none of the Cold War powers built on those Japanese designs at the height of the arms race. |

I just googled Submarine Aircraft Carriers. If you find the same one it was from a gaming site forum. Those guys spent a couple pages working out what they thought the kinks might be.
Still It could work. Typhoon class submarine is as long as an Aircraft carrier already I believe. |

That's an awesome concept design, Loose. My Brother and I are going to sit down next weekend and talk about how the landing deck needs to work. Since he's a former Air Force Pilot, it's nice to have someone with realworld knowledge of how landing an aircraft actually works.

It would have to be VSTOL I think. Anything else might be impractical. But who knows I suppose Submarines can be huge? The only real consideration defensesive armorment when sitting on the service launching aircraft. But maybe they just launch and go back under the surface.
What if Cobra had 3 or 4 of Submarine Aircraft Carriers? I bet the one in IDW has that ability. The one they used in Sigma 6 was definitely launching Aircraft. This is the Sea-Titan, but I think Cobra had an even bigger one. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 01-27-2010 at 07:20 AM.. |

I think the biggest problem would be how you store the aircraft, that Japanese submarine carrier looks like it stored the aircraft with folded wings in separate external chambers. I suppose you could do the same nowadays with a significantly larger chamber, but you'd not get many on the sub. Alternatively you have one large area where you store the aircraft, but sealing that, and counteracting the buoyancing of such a large volume of air would be difficult I imagine.

I got Bellomo's book last night. Read up to 85. Got alot more codenames to use in my stories.
Sounds like Hama tried to have the conversation with Hasbro about not making replacement Joes (Footloose over Grunt) and just reusing the same team members, even giving some additional training. So that means if Flash would most likely have been Airtight. Interesting.
