Isn't that the arc Tony Harris drew?
Yeah, The Coffin doesn't work for what I need. Or maybe it will. An arctic base that doubles as a prison?

When the Joes first meet Kwinn, it's at the North Pole, not Alaska. As far as Arctic/winter bases, #24 has the Joes and the captured Cobra Commander set up on a snowy plateau in the Rockies with the "pre-fab fortress" (the toy headquarters). I was always partial to that story. I also liked the Coldfire story, not so much for the plot but for the Joes that were used.

Oh Yeah #24 was one of my favorites. I liked that squad as well. It was the first time for the C.L.A.W. and the SkyHawk.
I think #11 is my favorite of all time since it was probably the most commercialized I remember. The Comic matched the toy commercial exactly, and I remember getting all of them the same day. Doc; Gung-Ho; Airborne; Snow Job and the Polar Bear. Although there was no base that I remember. Cobra was just trying to blow up the pipelines. |

Yeah, #11 is a great one. I remember thinking how awesome it was to see the commercial and then have the cartoon of the commercial scene turn into the cover of the comic.

LOL, yeah, though it would've been a bit predictable. Duke into a Yeti, on the other hand, could have been fun. Issue 11 is one of my faves too. Arctic warfare, a couple of Joes who would become favorites of mine (Doc and Gung Ho), yeah, good stuff. Going back a bit, a few years ago I came up with a new series of adventures/missions using the new characters from Spy Troops, Valor vs. Venom, and the DTC collection. I think my core was Barrel Roll, Bombstrike, Med Alert, Wide Scope and Kamakura. In my 'verse, Duke was dead and most of the others had retired.

Barrel Roll was the only good thing to come out of DDP.

Agreed. For a character with such disparate specialties, he had a lot of potential. They could have done so much with the BR/Bombstrike/Blackout dynamic, it would have come close to rivaling the SE/Scarlett/SS stuff. I enjoyed some of their stories, but not all. The stories I came up with were my own, unconnected to the DDP 'verse.

Yeah, the Stall family had HUGE potential that was never realized.

I actually liked many of the characters in DDP. Although I don't know which qualify as new and which are just characters Marvel never used so are new in a way. Maybe it's more of a fanboy reaction for me. So characters like: Claymore; Mercer; Overlord; Overkill; Interrogator I was happy to see.
But I like Barrel Roll; Dart; Kamakura; Skullbuster; Blackout; Guilliotine; the Red Shadows (Although the story was sort of flaky at times); Alexander Destro; Hannibal(As Serpentor's other general) The Coil; to name a few. |
