These are only toys meant for children. I know most kids didn't give a squat about rank and such when you were 6-10 years old. Most of us played with our toys. As I've grown I've realized it's about the fun not about being a zealot to the filecard, the o-ring, or other such nonsense. It's about toys. That said for me to have fun I've just made my Joes more modern and scrapped a lot of what was written.

I think Marvel recently did something similar with the X-Men in an alternative universe book (forget what the series was called), where they set a "hard timeline" at around the Dark Phoenix Saga (1980) and started aging all the X-Men in real-time from there, and most of today's X-Men are now either totally new or the kids of retired members. I could be misremembering though... I haven't read a "Big Two" superhero comic book in years. |

Hey Guys, hope everyone had a great Xmas/New Year. Been out of the loop, having spent the holidays in an internet free area (sigh). Anyway, been trawling through the last 40 odd pages since I was here last.

Z, that was the Gen-Next title.
Had Emma Frost's kid, Gambit's kid, Colussus's kid and couple others. Beast, Hank McCoy, was the teacher/leader.

Ah, that's what it was. Was it any good? From what I can gather from forums and such, Claremont's writing has nosedived since peaking during the 1980s. |

Welcome back to civilization. As far as the internet goes, you didn't miss much, it was just more of the same: free porn, some viral video making the rounds, nuisance e-mails, faked photographs of some celebrity-or-other, same old, same old .

I haven't read Gen-Next, so don't know about that series.
X-Men Forever is bad. I liked the possibilities with Sovereign 7. But yeah, he hasn't been the same since the end of his X-Men run when Lee "forced" him out.

I'm beginning to think Claremont's acclaimed run on the X-Men is more the exception than the rule when it comes to his collective body of work. I remember reading a couple of his paperback science-fiction novels back in the day and I was mortified at how bad his narrative writing could be without illustrations to help the flow of the story along, full of purple prose and such.
