Yeah will I guess what I did like about DDP was that it feature characters like Mercer, Grand-Slam and Dodger along with Claymore. The sky is the limit with those guys. Sure it was a little fanboyish at times but we've all gotten tired of some of the same old stories, and characters.
But Red Shadows was great and lacking at the same time. But if they could have worked it out at the pace the new series is rolling, it probably could have been better. I think one of the biggest prblem the new Joe series is having is they are essentially waiting for Larry to write the Origins stuff so they can decide what to include in their story. If they write something out of character for someone, then Larry or whoever does the Origins series will have to backtrack. Still they should tell the Main series guys, "Hey use Claymore or Mercer all day. but uhh sorry Grand-Slam got his brains blown out so you going to have to skip using him. How about Dodger?" |

Not all DDP was bad. I think if you go back and read some of the Marvel stuff it's just as bad. especially the last 4 years. but I still even enjoyed the bad Marvel stuff since my love of GIJoe really stems from the Toys...
... the Marvel line ended so terribly. The last few comics leading up to the end went no where, and where and why Cobra just disappeared was never explained. The art on the DDP books did pick up around the WWIII arc, but I could never get into the DDP "house style" (best exemplified by Tim Seeley). Just too "superhero-y" for my tastes. Everybody had the same cut physiques with muscle groups somehow showing through BDUs, cheekbones jutting out of people's faces, and indistinct, generic facial structures. |

You know I can't remember anything about Nth man. I had a subscription when it came out and they're somewhere in storage but it has been like over 15 years since I looked at them. I remember when it came out was about issue 100 for the Joes as well. I would get those two and Capt America when I live overseas and it would just make my month. Now I can't remember any of it.

Nth Man was so cool! I lost my whole collection when we moved from Canada to Australia :(
I still live in hope that they do a Marvel Essentials one day. I have him with my Ninja guys, although I treat them as regular soldiers who just happen to all have ninjitsu training so they operate as an Infiltration troop. I use one of the Shang Tsung figures as Lee Van Cleef's The Master. He's their advisor/sensei/father figure |

I think I got the same Shang Tsung. I use him as Shang Tsung and he's another ninja group of Mortal Combat guys. Well really him and Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Smoke and Reptile. KANO is solo, Rayden is with Tsang-Tsung. I don't have any of the others. Except GORO.
http://www.yojoe.com/archive/actfig/...tsung-card.jpg Shadowloo works similarly under M Bison. I use to have Col. Guile as a Joe, but then I renamed all the movie Guiles to something else. Now I don't use any now. |

I've been getting a few Shang Tsung's recently. I've been getting a few of the 2002-2006 Joes I was missing from a Chinese toy seller on eBay. He sells Joes in lots of 6 or 8. I've had some pretty good luck so far. Been tracking down a few of the Street Fighters and Mortal Kombat guys I'm missing too.
I'll use the SF/MK guys as the ASEAN + 3 trade bloc's version of the Joes. Ken Masters, Zangief and M Bison are Red Shadows. |

The problem with doing a series between Marvel and DDP is that you run into the "Star Wars Trap". Take Clone Wars, we know how it's going to end. Sure you can tell some interesting and decent stories, but we know the conclusion of it all. Whenever we see Anakin and Obi Wan in peril we know they live. We know that Greivous will always escape because he doesn't die until the movie. And we know that at some point Ashoka has to die. We know the ending so no matter how good the stories, we know where it's all headed.
For a Joe series between Marvel and DDP we'd know that at some point in that 7 year span, Joe is shut down again and Duke joins the CIA, Kamakura becomes a Operator and works for Hammer Team (think that's what it was called) running ops for Duke and Chuckles and that SE gets an apprentice named Orphelia that gets killed. So we know where it would end up. Thats limiting story telling because it forces the writer to make sure everything ends up in a certain direction.

This is true; however, realistically speaking, we almost ALWAYS know how it's going to end. J. Michael Straczynski has said that one of the reasons he used "flash-forward" sequences in Babylon 5 is that part of the fun was showing the audience how it ended so that he could focus on the journey rather than the destination. (I'm paraphrasing a LOT)
B5 worked because JMS knew how it was going to end when he started it, so he could make the journey make sense. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is being pushed into fitting within the start (Attack of the Clones) and the end (Revenge of the Sith). I don't want any new Joe story to be hampered and hindered by having a definate end point. We know none of the Joes would die because we know who is still alive when DDP starts up.

Yeah, if done right it can work.

That being said, it probably will. ;)
