I'm pretty sure the CDO is a contingency-based position like the OOD, as it doesn't have an NOBC (a billet code) associated with it. If you want, I can post a document with all the US naval officer billet codes with the definitions (146 pages). I think it's fairly current.

You'll have to forgive the formatting, I haven't had the time to fix it up from the source. But if you already know what you're looking for, it's text-searchable. |

Okay, I've been debating what to do with the artillery and armor units in my joeverse. I want to have an artillery section but what do they do when they're not supporting an infantry troop?. After learning from everyone how they use theirs and thanks to Zulu using Steeler as Cavalry more than armor, I decided I'd do this..
My artillery guys will have split duties. When they need to, they can form the Joe's artillery battery but when it's not needed, they'll function in a Fire Support Team role similar to the UKSF 148 Commando Forward Observation Battery, Royal Artillery. 148 Commando Battery Basically they'll have the same commando skills as the other Joe operators and deploy as small teams of 3-6 operators in conjunction with my Sabre Squadron Troops. I already have some FAC's / CCTs in each troop but these guys will be able to call in Air Strikes as well as Naval Gunfire control and have secondary functions of battle damage assessment and communication encrypters. The armor guys will be deployed with armadillos and if need be they can 'up grade' to Mobats and Patriot Grizzlies when the operation requires it. |

I've been using the laser troopers as Forward Observers. I like the idea of pulling double duty and I'm doing the same with my armor guys, deployed with armadillos and upgraded to Mobats/Maulers as needed.

Tyroc, if you want a good up-to-date source for organizing artillery or any unit for that matter, check out the link below, scroll down and click on the pdf file for brigade combat team. It gives you the entire organizational structure for the BCTs. Very helpful stuff.

So I'm trying to come up with some names for the ships in my CSG by sticking closely to the current naming system. So cruisers, for instance, are currently named after cities or places where famous battles were won, like Ticonderoga, Hue City, Valley Forge, Gettysburg. Destroyers are mostly named for admirals/commodores, frigates for navy seamen/officers/aviators, subs for US states, and AOE ships for geographic places, like Rainier and Arctic, and people. So here's what I've come up with so far:
USS Flagg CVN-99 (usually named after presidents but I'll stick with what we have already) USS Springfield CG-86 (named for the Joe's invasion of Cobra's base in Springfield; for a second cruiser I might use USS Broca Beach) USS Keel-Haul DDG-121 (speaks for itself) USS Shipwreck FFG-72 (again speaks for itself) USS Colorado or New Jersey SSBN-755 (can't decide since the Joes had a Pit in both states) USNS Borovia or Sierra Gordo T-AOE 14 (I'd prefer to use the name of a geographic feature, like a mountain peak or body of water that existed in the comics, but can't think of anything) Last edited by Tanksmasher; 12-13-2009 at 12:30 AM.. |

I loved the Jane. I always thought it made alot of sense for the Joes to have an unmarked freighter for their use instead of known Navy vessels.
hhhhmmm...

Thoughts?
Original G.I. Joe A Real American Hero Continuity Continues In New Series With G.I. Joe #156 - GI Joe News Quote:
Diamond recently released information on the Gold-level sponsors for Free Comic Book Day in May 2010. Our book for that level is G.I. JOE 155-1/2, an all-new story that picks up where the old Marvel series (which stopped at issue 155) ended. The book leads into a new REAL AMERICAN HERO series that starts with issue #156. The online cover image wasn't the final version, though--that one is pictured right here, with art by Augustin Padilla, who's doing the interiors on this new book. The inimitable Larry Hama scripts, of course.
Will it tie into the DDP books, which took place years after the Joes were disbanded at the end of the Marvel run? Longtime fans remember that G.I. Joe A Real American Hero didn't exactly end the way Larry Hama anticipated, so now we've got something to look forward to as the godfather of G.I. Joe returns to the very title that defined G.I. Joe from the 1980's until now!
