Senate Approval on Vehicles Update: Helicopter Assault Force. For 1 True Heroes UH-60 Blackhawk, callsign: Jayhawk and if I'm ever brave enough, it will recieve a Coast Guard paint scheme, I want to see the helo. Also approved 1 True Heroes MH-6 Little Bird single seat pilot variant, callsign: Shocker. If i ever get the Elite 1:18 MH-6, I will move the single seat variant to Cobra. Ground Vehicles Force. Delta Squad (Tiger Force) will recieve the Special Forces Navy Seals Desert Patrol Light Strike Vehicle with the callsign: WILDCAT and be driven by Crankcase. Plans for a Hotel Squad (Urban & Security) vehicle are in the works for 2010. The new modified jeep/suburban/humvee with the Pursuit of Cobra toyline plans to be purchased and given the callsign: GORILLA and be driven by Barricade. Kansas school monikers as vehicle callsigns work in my joe-verse because Crankcase, Cutter, Barricade and Flint are all from Kansas and they all have drivers & pilots specialties and half of those are high ranking in the chain of command. But Crankcase from Lawrence driving a Wildcat that might be tough to pull off. Maybe I can equalize the irony and have Nightingale from Manhattan, KS flying the Jayhawk.

The True Heroes Blackhawk is pretty good, if a little small (offhand, I think it's closer to the 1:24 scale). It's probably the best combination of value and scale for use with the current Joe figures, though.

Do the Joes fit good in it? I've been tempted to grab one, but not sure how well the Joes fit.

The classic ARAH figures would fit, I think. The current ones will fit with some difficulty but some of the bulkier ones and the ones with poor hip articulation (like the early "diaper-crotch" Gung-Ho and Duke figures) don't fit at all (well, they'd fit lying down, I guess).

Ah, damn. Was hoping for "perfect" fit, lol
I'm always hesitant to buy that kind of stuff cause not sure how well the figures will fit and I hate bad fits.

I'm considering getting the R/C True Heroes tank for use as an MBT Mauler myself. It's a tad small (again, closer to 1:24 than 1:18) but close enough for government work. If I ever do get one, I'll probably end up ripping out the innards (not really into R/C vehicles) and detailing the insides. But given the work that might entail, it might be a better idea to just go for an actual 1:18 M1A1 tank.

Hey I got a question for those who have put any thought into developing a Joe Navy. I'm working on a Joe Carrier Strike Group (CSG) consisting of the CVN-99 USS Flagg, of course, one Guided-missile Cruiser (CG), one Ballistic Missile Submarine (SBNN), a Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) of three Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG) and one Guided Missile Frigate (FFG), and one Fast Combat Support Ship (AOE).
So far I've collected a lot of info (rank, ratings, etc) on key personnel on each type of ship but I can't find much info on how the Officer of the Deck (OOD) is selected. The OOD is the Officer of the Watch who essentially commands the bridge during certain watch periods. He pretty much runs the ship because even though the CO and XO are on board, they typically never stand watch. But how many OODs are there and what departments are they chosen from? Can the OOD be an officer/department head from any department on the ship? Navigator? Weapons Officer? Operations Officer? Supply Officer? Chief Engineer? Do Division Officers serve as OODs or JOODs (Junior Officer of the Deck) for that matter? Any help here would be appreciated. |

OODs can be sourced from just about any department although most will be deck department officers (i.e., navigation officers, operations officers, etc.)... there's nothing to stop an engineering officer/chief engineer from working as an OOD as long as he's duly licenced, but typically, they'd probably be working as in the engineering department and their skills are best used there. EDIT: As to how many OOD's are on a typical ship, it depends on the size of the ship. On small vessels, (20 or less sailors), the CO and/or XO (if the vessel has one assigned) serves as the de facto OODs. Larger vessels will generally have a regimented system of OOD assignments. Thanks Zulu. It's interesting how difficult it is to find info on the Navy's organization, unlike other branches.
From an older edition of the Bluejacket's manul, it appears that division officers rotate as officers of the deck (OOD). The OOD is a line officer on watch in charge of the ship and has authority over everyone, regardless of rank except the CO, XO and CDO if assigned. It seems to make sense that they'd come from the deck and/or operations department but I wasn't sure. A typical watch is four hours underway, so I'm assuming there are at least 6 OODs on board, unless you can stand more than one watch in a 24-hour period. I'm also curious about the Command Duty Officer (CDO). Does the CO simply select a department head to fill this position when needed or is the CDO an additional officer not in charge of any department? |

I'm pretty sure the CDO is a contingency-based position like the OOD, as it doesn't have an NOBC (a billet code) associated with it. If you want, I can post a document with all the US naval officer billet codes with the definitions (146 pages). I think it's fairly current.
