I like the idea because it's a new, unexplored element in the Joeverse. Everyone needs a rescue team, and they would be perfect candidates. Also, I believe that they wear the maroon beret? Does this make Dusty version 4 a PJ?

Yeah, these guys go through some lengthy training and if you wanted a guy saving your ass, you'd probably want one of them doing it. They seem pretty versatile and well-rounded. People like to argue about which units are the best. Delta Force? SEALs? Marine Force Recon? The SEALs stand out for me in terms of well-roundedness, but PJs are damn close.
I also have to admit my own bias towards Army Special Forces. I knew quite a few of those guys at Ft. Bragg and they're amazing. Army SF has divers, HALO teams, you name it, they do it. Delta is even more so. I guess the way I look at it is that each type of special operations unit has a purpose, or a specific specialty. If the mission is to assault an oil tanker or oil rig or something on the water - it's gotta be the SEALs. If the mission is to go and work with local people to try and raise an army, it's gotta be Army SF. If it's long range recon in the jungle - send in Force Recon. If you need to capture and hold an airfield - send in the Rangers. I think we probably need them all for different missions. Just my opinion.

I do think it would be great if they had some PJ Joes with Maroon Berets... at least one or two of them with Maroon Berets. I'd really like to see a 6 pack of some guys like that. Don't get me wrong, guys. I think it would be great to have some PJ's. My Brother was in the Air Force. I'm NOT Anti-Air Force. I just wondered why Troynos liked them so much. I think it's a great idea, and I think Hasbro should take note.

I tell you, after I read that Wikipedia article on Marine Force Recon, those guys are serious. They are pretty well-rounded - everything from Scuba to Scout/Sniper to Ranger School. I suppose that Marines are, by nature, pretty well rounded. They're supposed to be deployable from the Land, Sea, or Air.

Side Note: I love the scene in Predator when Dutch reads the dogtags of the skinned soldiers: "I knew dis man. Green Berets outta Ft. Bragg. Now what da hell were dey doin here?" |

I think that's great. I use the 8" file cards as reference information. Have you made any of those customs yet? I would really like to see some pics. I really liked Lockdown, Desert Wolf, and Sgt. Boulder. A lot of people on here have mentioned Mayday. I don't know a lot about her, but it would be good to have another female on the team.
Currently I am lining up my parts for these guys. But nothing made yet. PS ALL Modern Era. Lockdown - Cobra Flint except head (just got), Buzzer head (modified), accessories from Gun Runner. Lt Stone - Cobra Flint head, Trooper torso, CG boots, haven't figured out the rest. Doc Carla Greer - Lady Jaye (25th Anniv. Single Pack) Inferno - i'm thinking combo of Barbeque & Serpentor Currently working on Cover Girl. Will post Pick. Here's a pic of my custom Starduster. I worked on him when around the time the Cobra Legion box set came out. I finished everything but repainting the jet pack then I got busy and by the time I go back to it they announced that he he was being released. |

Absolutely. Some may have a slight advantage in a different environment or in "their element" you might say. I wanna learn more about Marine Force Recon as well.
Side Note: I love the scene in Predator when Dutch reads the dogtags of the skinned soldiers: "I knew dis man. Green Berets outta Ft. Bragg. Now what da hell were dey doin here?" When Dutch asks what were they doing there, I suppose the question could be interpreted as a question of what their mission had been. Sometimes the SEALs have had trouble with inland missions. When we invaded Panama in 1989 (Operation: Just Cause), they got hung up in the foliage while coming ashore and were late. They also had some problems with taking the airfield. In retrospect, several strategists have remarked that the Ranger Regiment would have been a better choice for that mission. It's not that the SEALs aren't awesome; I think it's just all about areas of concentration and specialties. I guess that's why we have so many different units to begin with.

Not sure why. Couple reasons, I guess.
1- It's a "job" that's sorely lacking in the Joeverse. You'd think a unit like the Joes that are constantly in enemy territory, would need a couple of people trained like the PJs. They got plenty of "get in and get out" kind of guys, but it would make more sense for the Joes to have medics that can fight as well as fix. 2- "So Others May Live" gotta love it. The motto just says it all. One grandfather was a SeaBee, the other a Marine. The SeaBee, you'd barely know he was in the service. Never talks about it, never mentions it. The Marine, he's a Marine thru and thru. Bumper sticker on his car says "Not as mean, not as lean, but still a marine." Flies the Marine flag (as well as the american and POW/MIA) at his home. Can't walk thru a room without some symbol or memento of his time in the service (was in Guam in WW2). When he dies, he's not getting buried at the family plot, he's at the veteran's cemetary. One of my friends was a Marine, at my wedding, he purposely sought out my grandfather and the two of them spent like an hour just talking. I've known people in all the different branches, but retired Marines seem to carry it more so then others. Does that make sense? My biggest regret is not joining the service (any branch). PJs just seem like a natural fit for the Joes. Moreso then some of the other "jobs" that they have.

PhiDpino, those custom projects sound awesome. I'm excited to see them. Is your Lt. Stone going to have a robot arm? I always really like his character. They eye patch was great.
