I don't think that's entirely true. He may not have had it in his mind to fit everything into a larger continuity that would be scrutinized almost 28 years later, but I think it's clear that he put a ton of thought into the individual filecards.

I'm not going to debate the effort Mr. Hama put into the file cards. I might not go so far as to say he put in a TON, but it's a matter of opinion. Rather, I'm more excited about the amount of detail that was put into these Action Force Battle Files, because they are REALLY detailed. I wish our file cards had been so detailed.

It's my understanding that he was winging it when it came to issues of continuity. But the cards in and of themselves are extremely creative, at least for my money.

It was Tunnel Rat's first appearance. He used a debit card to get his pay, since the Joe's in the field weren't able to stop at bases and collect. Raptor tracked the Joes thru Nicky Lee's debit withdrawal since Lee was assigned to the Fort Wadsworth Motor Pool and Cobra knew that was the Joes "base".
I'll have to spend some time checking out the Action Force Battle Files. Tank, good line up. I'd have Snake-Eyes as a Cornerback. Duke and Flint would be linebackers, along with Leatherneck and Hit & Run. The Fridge has to be nose tackle. I'd go 3-4 with the Joes. Gung-Ho would be a defensive end along with Salvo. Stalker would be a safety along with Beachhead and Torpedo would be the other Cornerback.

My emails with him sort of indicate the same thing, at least that's how I read them. I may actually send him an email and ask about the Action Force Battle Files. Certain elements of Hama's continuity found their way into those Battle Files, so he may know something about how they were written/adapted.

I'm very excited to be played by Mr. Tom Selleck. I hope they make this movie soon before he dies of old age.
Here's a question: I've always thought that General Flagg looked a lot like General MacArthur. I think that was intentional. How much do we even know about General Flagg's bio, and how much like Gen. MacArthur was he?
