Not surprised about the USMC connection (the beret notwithstanding). The "original Stone," GI Joe Extreme's Lieutenant Stone, is a Marine officer according to his filecard. Still, neat find.
Not sure about Sgt. Stone being intended as a Gung-Ho stand-in, though. Gung-Ho exists as a separate character in the "RoC universe" (Gung-Ho is a distinct and separate character from Sgt. Stone in the RoC video game, which is in the same continuity as the film and serves as an "almost sequel"... think of it as GI Joe 1.5). Yeah, I played the video game; it's a lot of fun. And even though Gung-Ho certainly exists as a separate character in the RoC universe because of the toys and the video game, I don't know if Steven Sommers cares one bit about that. Honestly, I watched some of the special features with my brother - Geez, that guy is an idiot. It was embarrassing just to watch him.

Well, with the USMC connection, it seems like Sgt. Stone is some sort of analog for Sgt. Slaughter. He's a Marine and he's the team's trainer, and he's got a similarly alliterative name (of course, it's probably all just coincidence).

Yeah, Marines say a lot of things. And they're in the habit of making disparaging remarks about things they used to do - like wearing patches on their uniforms.
Sgt. Stone wears a beret, which is odd for a Marine. However, it's the same type of beret that Hawk wears in the movie, and it may simply be part of the unit's uniform. I know a lot of soldiers who hate the black Army beret, but that's just the uniform right now. On the other hand, the movie had so many other "technical" problems with the uniforms and other aspects military details that it's almost laughable. The tattoo was in such an odd position on his arm - who gets a tattoo like that? weird. The whole movie is pretty weird. So why do you think he's SOTG as opposed to any other type of Special Ops Marine? I don't see why that would be all that more likely that on the MARSOC Advisor Units. What's your reasoning? That should still leave him with an advanced Force Recon skill level. Not sure how many were transfered to be cadre of the MSOS. With regards to the beret, Force Recon were the last Marines to wear them. Here's the thread with the Gung-Ho reference. http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...interview.html

I like that theory Zulu. There is that interview with Frazier early on where he claims to have been the village people guy. As he embarrassingly had no idea about GIJoe. But maybe Sommers, when he took the Joe Cliff notes of the whole Joe universe, saw Gung-Ho as a big part and Sgt Slaughter as well. Then combined the two. I wonder if he was at all aware of either Lt Stones from the Joe verse? It seems like Sigma six, was incorporated as well.

So there is no doubt about the Tattoo Oliver? I mean if it's there, then there is no doubt. I accept Mace as a Marine just for the reference on the filecard. I'm still not sure about Blast-Off; Mirage; Bullhorn, and the cancelled Polar guy Snow Storm?

I agree with BlackRazor as Stone would be more SOTG than a MARSOC advisory group guy. But who's to say he can't be both? But the SOTG just seem more like trainers, and Drill Sgts, than what I envision the MSOAG MSOTs to be like. And Fraiziers character seemed to high spirited to be that harrowed looking Marine I would imagine the MARSOC guys to be.

I'm stoked. I finally got a CS SE, Charbroil and Dr Rex at Walmart for $5 each. I also picked up the Resolute DVD for $13. Not bad.

There's no doubt about the tattoo, Loose. We went back and paused it (in Blue Ray) to double check. It was there, plain as day - EGA.

On the other hand, there's no way to determine this. Whoever put that tattoo on Bendan Frasier's arm probably doesn't know what kind of Marine Sgt. Stone is supposed to be, and he doesn't know that Marines don't usually wear berets. So trying to figure out whether Stone is in MARSOC, or more specifically MSOAG or SOTG is pointless. There's no correct answer. Just do with him whatever feels right in your Joeverse. So, Blackrazor, if you want to use him as SOTG, great. Knock your self out. I'll use him as MSOAG because it's more like Special Forces and it's a part of MARSOC. But there's not definitive right answer. Heck, he might have just been like Leatherneck: Recon Marine and Drill Instructor. There's no other information on the character to extrapolate.

I'll say this about Resolute: I know it's cool to see our favorite characters with updated looks. I know it's cool that they're using bullets and really shooting at one another. But it's basically the same plot as usually - Cobra has a device that will destroy the world, and so it holds the world hostage. G.I. Joe has to find their secret bases around the world and stop them. And Resolute isn't funny - at all. The old Cartoons like "The MASS Device" or "The Weather Dominator"... all of them had moments that are genuinely funny. I miss the old Cobra Commander.
