So I'm working Indiana Jones into my Joeverse, since the Joes now have a the DoJ arm and I'm already using the old Secret Society for the Coils...
I figure Henry "Indiana" Jones was a war buddy of Coltons, may or may not have been part of Coltons original Joe team, back during Viet Nam (yeah, I'm bringing Indy forward in time but still keeping him aged). So after 'Nam and between the formation of the new Joe team, Jones became Dr. Jones and started his archealogy career and along the way his old war buddy Colton joined him (and thus we get the Adventure Team adventures). Then Colton was tapped to run the new Joe team and as more and more was found out about the Society of the Coiled Serpent, Colton brought in Indy as a consultant. That's an awesome Idea Troy. I was going to use him as a guy Trapped in time since the 40's-50's when the Joes uncover the Clones, but I have a hard time figuring how any of the Joes would know who he was. I guess maybe Action Man can be the son of Marcus Brody or something. |

In the last movie (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), it was mentioned that Indiana Jones served in WWII as a Colonel in the O.S.S. With that kind of record, he might have even been a mentor to Colton in some way... sort of a "grandfather" or "godfather" to the modern Joe Team.

In my 'verse, the joes cover is that of a Special Forces Support Battalion (kinda like the logistics study unit that it's the TV show 'The Unit')
Btw, has anyone seen the POC Arctic Doc?. He kinda looks like Adv team to me...thinking of buying a few to make some Adv team figures. I think Shipwreck's head on that body would make a cool Colton. I know the GI Joe club is making some but I can get a head start I saw that PoC Doc... you're right, he does look like the old Adventure Team. That Shipwreck would work for Colton, you'd probably just need a little paint and you'll be good to go.

I remember reading something about how back in the 1970s and 1980s, once a soldier or officer gained entry into the SAS, they'd be assigned a "new" rank which places them squarely at the bottom of the hierarchy within the Squadron as new entrants (enlisted men would again be considered lance-corporals and officers would be again treated as 2nd lieutenants and tehy'd have to earn their "SAS rank"). As soon as they leave the SAS, for any reason (I think at that point in time, 3 years was the maximum continuous "residency" within the unit, after which a career soldier/officer would have to cycle out and re-apply for entry again, although they retain their rank this time), they'd get back their old pre-SAS rank, with consideration given to promotions and accumulated pay increases they might be eligible for during the time they were in the SAS.
I can imagine the Joes having a similar system in place, and it can go a long way towards explaining why Stalker was an E-5 for so long.

That's completely true. What they did to Indy... I nearly cried. It was horrible. "The Last Crusade" should have been the last crusade.

I don't think he's technically "retired". I think he was probably recruited by Wild Bill Donovan and given the rank of Colonel. He probably just "got out" after the War was over. I doubt he's drawing an Army pension.

Crystal Skull was fine until the aliens.. wait I mean dimensional travelers appeared.
I want Indy to be a contemporary with Colton, maybe a little older, but still young enough to be able to go out on missions. I was watching National Treasure the other night and that along with Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol and Da Vinci Code got me thinking about secret societies and all that kind of stuff and wondering how can integrate it into the Joeverse.

About Indiana Jones - obviously you can do whatever you want in your Joeverse, but if we're talking about the character Harrison Ford played in the movies, he's simply not Colton's contemporary. He's too old. The man fought in WWI and WWII. That character was born in the late 1800's in Princeton, NJ, fought in WWI as a part of the Belgium Army and later in the French Secret Service, where he was commissioned as an officer and worked as a spy. He returned home after the war and attended the University of Chicago, majoring in Archeology. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in the same field and was a tenured professor of Archeology at Marshall College and later at Barnett College. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army in WWII in the O.S.S., eventually achieving the rank of Colonel before leaving the Army and returning to teaching/adventuring. So, like I said, do whatever you want, but if you want a companion for Colton that's a contemporary, you might try Rambo.
