This makes me think of "The 40-year Old Virgin", where that bitch made him sell all his toys. Who wants to be with someone who doesn't love you for who you are? That movie was sending the wrong message, IMO. And I don't agree with people calling themselves "geeks" here. Putting yourself down for your interests and being ashamed of yourself are terrible things. Like what you like, unless it's bestiality or something like that.
I've heard a lot of people saying now is the "time of the geeks" or now being a geek is accepted, but I don't like the g-word. It demeans people who are mostly nice folks. Though sometimes I think I am too cool for the geeks but too geeky for the cool, so I don't fit in anywhere. Or, more likely, I'm right in the middle like most of us.
And I really don't know what a girl I like would think of my collection because I never meet anybody I like and get to know who doesn't fade away into the night. I dunno how this stuff works in the real world.

I say hide figures at first and slowly introduce them into that world, if they start freaking out the more nerd stuff you introduce then you know it's time to let her go. At least you might have scored before that point though.
A lot of women can be cool with nerds, but they have a bad first reaction. I used to show them I was a normal guy first so when they found out i was a level 8 mega nerd they realized it wasn't such a bad thing.

Men are much less complicated than women. They are attracted to:
1. Good looks
2. Good looks
3. Good looks
4. Good looks
5. Good looks
6. Good looks
7. Good looks
8. Good looks
9. Good looks
10. Good looks
So if you are a female or a gay guy, if you have any of the ten items on that list, attracting males will not be a problem. You could collect the severed heads of infants in jars of formaldehyde in your bedroom, and as long as you are HOT, there will be plenty of men interested in you.

I would never hide it, and it would never be an issue.
If it was an issue than that women disqualifies herself as a potential mate. Her loss, not mine.
If you are trying to hide that you collect from someone then you are building a relationship out of mistrust right from the beginning, and it's already doomed for failure.
*shrug* women and relationships will compliment my life, not detract from it. I want to collect Joes, why should anything but my own finances stop me? Why should anything but your own finances stop you?

Also a lot of you guys make it seem like you just tell any perspective mate "HEY I GOT A HUGE JOE COLLECTION" That's not something a normal person tells right off the bat. Jesus christ downplay it
Guys you gotta support G.I. Joe or else we won't have G.I. Joe on the shelves and they haven't released Spaceshot. We can't have an anniversary line without Spaceshot!

in 1995 my live-in girlfriend (now my wife) collected Barbies. I did not collect toys, not since I got rid of my childhood collection in 1986. I had a ton of fun running around helping her find stuff. We had a wall of pink boxes covering our apartment bedroom.
Remember this is 1995 no Joes on the shelf, but something came along one day...Star Wars.
I was hooked immediately. Little did I know how big of a collection Star Wars would be much less GI Joe, He-Man, TMNT, Thundercats, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel Anything, and all the rest.
She stopped collecting Barbies and I just could not give up my addiction. I started doing toy shows and traveling the world in 1996 and opened my first toy store in 1998 just to support my habit. It's definately a sickness.
She hates that I spend money on toys and hates the time I spend "trying" to organize and archive the massive collection but I remind her it's all her fault. (Actually to be fair, she is pretty awesome and will let me do whatever I want as long as the family is taken care of so, it's cool.) If there was never Barbie, there would probably be no toys or toy business.
I never hide what I love from anyone. I love my family, my friends, my 1961 Triumph Herald Saloon 1200, my business, and my toys. They are all a part of me, and i am an open book If I was dating now, she would have to accept the toy part of me. But perhaps I would wait for the right time, just like I would with the fact that I have 3 kids : - )
