I say 86' because it was a great year of new characters plus we had the past years to go with to make the perfect Joe vs Cobra teams. 87' was the start of the end. And 88' was worse and 89' on was pretty damn weak. Plus The Havoc is my favorite tank type Joe vehichle and I loved the Stun and Night Raven(even though the 25th figures can't fit in it:(. The Terror drome will always be the best base ever. Even though the Flagg is so massive and the most impressive the Terror Drome is better to me because The Flagg is just a Aircraft Carrier and those can be found in every day armies. The Terror drome was the definate Cobra base and the only base Cobra ever had in toy form. So I say 86' was the peak with the figures, cartoon (Arise) and the comics.

Ahhh...85'....The best vintage for JOE wineage...
You could STILL mix the classics with the "up to dates" and not have too much of an Arnold complex.
AND it was JUST before the "revamps" Flash to Sci-Fi, Doc to LifeLine, Gung Ho to Leatherneck, Torpedo to Wet-Suit...
NOT that THEY were bad characters...just cheap updated rip-offs of characters that had SO much potential and NEVER used...(Clutch to Cross Country? Wild Bill to Lift Tivket?? WTF????!!!!)

Overall, I'd say '86 and of course with the Movie to top it off.

1985 was the peak year for GI joe. While 1986 had some great stuff to offer beyond that it slowly went downhill.

There were a a lot of main characters that were introduced, including Serpentor and Dr. Mindbender. Fan favorites included BATS and Viper.

82 to 85 were the best. 86 had 2 or 3 cool vehicles but the rest were in my opinion horrible. Totally un-army and totally un-realistic vehicles. I really see 86 as the downfall of GI Joe as we new it. The new correctors were no where near as cool as the original cast. Not that they were all bad but some were pretty terrible. But again, it was the lame vehicles that came out in 86 and continued to be made from that point on that really brought the line down.
