Yeah I did something like this as a kid. I thought I would be a smart ass and walk away from my mom and grandma while we was in a mall...I wanted to go to the toy store but I did not want to wait. They found me an hour latter and I played the sorry game while crying and stuff. Let me tell you, my ma and granny beat the t total shit out of me from the mall to the car. They took blasted turns! one would beat while the other pulled me along. I never did that again!

I have witnessed something similar to this in a Babies 'R' Us the other day. My wife and I were there picking up some essentials for our daughters baptism and a boy was a few isles over throwing a tantrum beause his mother wouldn't let him push the cart. Not because he wanted something, but because he wanted to push the freaking cart.
Perhaps I can see a tykes point of view in wanting a toy (as sad as it may be for parents) but pushing a cart?
I hope my daughter and future unborn swimmers don't end up like this. In a time of ever watchful eyes over how one disciplines thier children, I fear that there will only be more cases like this.

Well if the kid didn't have anything wrong with him mentally and acted this way in public just to be rotten and get his way, its a pretty safe bet other kids will beat the crap out of him throughout his life. If a kid that age sucks on a pacifier in public he probably does have serious problems.
I hate the way parents dicipline kids now with "timeouts" and "losing privileges" it just doesn't work as good as spanking. My parents never beat me but just knowing I might get a rosey-behind usually kept me in line. Now people will call the cops on you if you do spank.
Last year a friend of mine upstate banned her chubby 9 year old son from sweets. Well he got mad and went to school and told his teacher his parents wouldn't feed him and the crazy bitch sent child services to their house causing all kinds of problems. Ironically my friend and her husband are also teachers and knew this lady outside of work. She knew they were good parents, just couldn't help interfering in others lives.

I also love the scenarios where the parents actually ALLOW the kids to yell, cry, stomp, and so on, and yet do NOTHING, but continue to shop as if nothing is even happening.
Where were these characters raised? In the mountains by wolves? WTF!?!? It just shows that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, as any and all common sense and decency shared from parent and child alike is non existent.
I have yet to do it, but I have no qualms in schooling/embarrassing one of these so called parents one of these days in front of everyone for having the nerve to make this sort of spectacle public, while doing NOTHING.
I look at it like this....what they choose/and or have go on in *Their* home is their business.....But....what they *Allow* to go on in a public setting becomes *Our* business.

If I had done something like that as a child i would not have been able to sit for weeks. When my boys tried doing that we spanked them there and then. They have not done it since. They know that when we say NO we mean it.

just because you don't see them doing something doesn't mean they are doing nothing. watching a parent fight back with the child is more embarrassing for the parent as far as I'm concerned, because if they are fighting with their child, they've already lost their authority.
the best parenting I've ever seen, I was walking into Target with my wife and this stern black father stopped and looked at his children before they entered and asked "What are the rules?" To which they both replied "Don't ask for anything and don't touch anything." that conditioning starts at the home.
the point is, raise the child well outside of t he store, you won't have to deal with them inside of it. so, I agree, it is a parenting issue, but those parents who are doing "nothing" aren't doing the wrong thing, they are simply corecting what they failed to establish prior to the incident in a pretty tactical and not confrontational manner. and a child behaving like that is seeking confrontation, so you have to strip them of the power they think they have if you've allowed that attitude to develop in them.

Obviously, the parent is freakin soft on the kid here. I would have set him straight from the get-go way before we even enter a toy store!
You don't let your kids dictate you!?
