the thing is, depending on the child you don't even need to spank. my daughter has melt downs, all kids do, and when she does I give her no ground. if we are in a store, I grab her and remove her from the situation. if she is at home, I stand right in front of her and let her carry on, but let her know it ain't gonna fly. eventually she snaps out of it and apologizes, and she does so because from the very get-go we have never given in.
the problem is most parents don't want to stand their ground and accept the fight. I'd rather be inconvenienced for 10 minutes or 2 hours rather than allow my children to ever think they can tantrum their way to what they want. they will lose every time. |

My 6 year pulled that crap once " I need that" or " I want that". I told him he whines again I'm throwing all his toys out when we get home to make room for it. Then I picked up another Dusty to m ake a custom. Hell, I'm the one with the money

I sometimes pestered my mom about a certain toy, but I never got to be anything more than slightly irritating. If I ever threw a temper tantrum in public like that or outright told my mom to shut up, I would have gotten slapped in the face and grounded for a month

Shit that kids get away with these days is terrible... one of my nieces when she was a few years younger (about 8 maybe) started having a fit in a store.. my sister in law emptied the cart.. and yanked all the kids to the car for a harsh word and a trip home.. nobody got anything that day.. at least this is what SHOULD have happened to this kid.. but if it was mine.. he would have had his little ass lit up.. (Im not saying abuse him.. but give him a nice redness to that ass) |

When my son did that, he was 3, we wer at Target, I picked him up, tossed him over my shoulder, walked out of the store with him screeming and pounding on my back, put him in his car seat, turned the stereo up over his screaming til he ran out of breath, I turned down the Music, asked him if he was done, he said yes, I said next time we go home to bed, He Never did it again. My eldest daughter (who's now 19) tried that shit when she was like 4 years old. I was stationed in Germany, and we were in the PX (post exchange for you non-military folk; kinda like a bootleg Walmart). I was in uniform (only an E-4/SPC at the time) and she decided to throw a tantrum because she wanted a toy. I promptly grabbed her by her little arm and commenced to whooping that ass right on the spot. In relatively close proximity there were some higher ranking folks (a couple E-7/SFC's and a Captain if I recall correctly), who were peering down the aisle ominously. I looked over at the small crowd that started gathering and said, "Is there a problem? Because if there is, you're more than welcome to raise my daughter for me. Outside of that, mind your damn business and move along."
My daughter never threw a tantrum again. |
