One more thing to add to the idea that "swaping/repacking" is a crime. A few years ago there was a news report about a guy who was actually charged with theft. Ya know what he was doing? He was "swaping" the UPC symbols on Lego sets. Buy two sets (One small, one large, swap the UPC and return the small set and get the big sets money back) That's basically the exact same thing here. He got away with it for a while, but the retailers finally put a stop to it by charging him with theft. So there's already a legal precedent for this type of thing.
Here's the Police report: Washington County Sheriff’s Office -- FITE Team Arrests man for theft of over $100,000 Also swapping is stealing. Just becuas eyou replace it with a crap figure doesnt make it right. Then returning is Fraud. 2 crimes for the price of one $8 figure. When i worked at wal-mart i saw a guy get taken away by the police for stealing a shifter knob. It doesnt matter how much the item is that you jack, all that matters is the loss prevention guy, or the store manage saying "we would like to press charges" Last edited by HissCommander; 10-28-2008 at 09:08 AM.. |

I'm glad that this thread is here, I hope it brings this matter to more light. On both sides of the coin, to those few repackers who think it's funny, it's not. Who think it's not a big deal it is. He does hurt others, not ever one out there knows everything about joes. It's coming up on Christmas guys, grandparents buying some figure for their grandson. He wanted the hard to find Snake Eyes with Timber, Instead he gets Glowing Red Snake Eyes with a my little puppy. And yes each time you do it you might just get caught. Customer Satisfaction aside if I worked the return dept. at Walmart and you brought me a repack I'd quietly call the manager and loss prevention to bust you. I know most return people don't seem to be a joe collector type, but they could also be restockers. And I can promise you this a restocker will know his/her stuff, because they see it over and over everyday. On the other side of the coin Hasbro, if anyone who works for hasbro has an ability to read, Please stop screwing us over! Release new Joes we will buy them. Release 5 pack army builders we will buy. Pretty much anything we will buy because it is our collection of Joes that we want to get. But stop forcing extra copies of figures down our throat, And if you do a figure and you have a plan to do him right, do him right the first time. IE Cobra Commander two more times in the DVD sets!

It's not "sticking it to the man" it is "sticking it to other consumers". Those repacks will sit on the shelves until someone unwittingly buys them; "the man" will pass the buck on to the consumers.

I think it's wrong, and I bring it up to the customer service desk every time I see it.
... of course it's back on the shelf the next day, so what can you do? |

Floating around town is a CC with an empty mass device piece. Someone went to all the trouble of switching out the empty piece for the one with the crystals. I suspect that it is the same guy would stole just hawk's pistol by ripping the bubble a little.
Its the same thing, and that is 2 more figures that will warm the pegs forever. and who wants to "stick it to the man?" I thought only 15 year olds thought like that. |

It's wrong. Plain and simple. With a family and a mortgage and these trying economic times I covet each Joe I am able to get. Then you go out and see mooks pulling a bait and switch? Those were the guys that used to steal baseball cards as a kid and never stopped!!!

It is a crime based on misrepresentation. The box shows what is supposed to be included and by returning something with the incorrect contents is fraud. That is a crime. Sales people get in trouble all the time for misrepresentation. We hate that. So returning a comic pack with Han Solo in it is misrepresentation which is punishable as fraud, even if the Wal Mart employee is clueless and takes it back anyway.
One way to combat this is if Hasbro put actual pictures of the items on the card backs. BTW, I clicked the wrong button on the poll. I chose the "give it to the man" option not fully understanding what I was voting for. I was under the impression that "repack" was simply stating reusing a figure again and again. Like the Viper and Iron Grenadier comic pack coming soon. Repacks to me also include the 3 Major Bludd variants. Same dude representing the same costume, different execution. After reading the responses, I now understand what the thread was meant to be about.

I dont know about giving it to the man, but i think people feel like they are giving it to these large corporations that rip them off anyway.

I dont believe its that serious.
I wouldnt classify it as a crime. its ethically or morally wrong sure but ethics and morals are different from person to person legally though, i dont think its a crime as the store cant prove that it wasnt factory mispacked. which does happen. FTW 2 Points D5! |

its a crime for sure, its wrong but it happens and well if stores are dumb enough to accept them back and take the loss well its on there hands as well.
I agree with brett, I'll stick with online ordering!
