I never had a big problem with Duke, but I always treated Flint as higher ranking than him anyway, since Flint was a Warrant Officer and Duke a sergeant. (It's my understanding that the Warrant Officers are generally considered higher in rank than NCOs but lower than an O-1)
Warrant Officers come from the NCO Corps. They have to attain the rank of E-5, as a general rule, before being eligible for consideration for Warrant Officer School. I've heard this said by many officers and NCOs, "Warrant Officers have the coolest jobs in the Army." So Flint would certainly be higher than Duke.

That's exactly right, fogger. I have an Uncle and and Aunt who are both retired Warrant Officers. Warrant Officers are considered to be "Technical Experts" and are often helicopter pilots in the Army. Not all areas of the Army have Warrant Officers. For example, there are no Warrant Officers in the Infantry. However, Special Forces does have Warrant Officers (Often referred to as "Chief"). An "A-Team", consisting of 12 Special Forces soldiers, is lead by a Captain and his second in command is generally a Warrant Officer. Military Intelligence also has a lot of Warrant Officers - these guys are usually the operatives and spies.

Awesome, I've always wondered where they fell, thanks for the run down. With Joes I figured their rank didn't have much to do with where they found themselves on the team, they were brought together and given positions based on their expertise, so Duke (only a Sgt.) was given command becuase he was the most capable leader... |

I never understood why Duke got command. He's a Sargeant. He's a frontline trooper. Falcon outranked Duke.
I always pictured the command structure: Hawk, Flint, Falcon and then Duke, but he was never involved in mission planning, he's the frontline commander. Hawk outlies the mission and Duke carries it out.

Fogger is completely right. He and I seem to see eye to eye on a great many things. Here's a list of examples for you:
Duke Flint Chuckles Falcon Snake-Eyes Scarlett Roadblock Hope that helps. It's just my opinion, but when evaluating characters, I think it's most helpful to take into account all three main continuities: Comics, Cartoon, and the toy line itself. Many of the Cartoon characters were weird and not that great/unrealistic. However, many times their comic book personality was fantastic - Roadblock and Falcon and Chuckles are great examples. Sometimes the opposite is true: Duke was much better on screen, and if I'm honest, so was Flint.

Here's a big difference from the cartoon to the comic:
Scarlet's "boyfriend". In the cartoon it was Duke. In the comic it was Snake Eyes. At least Lady Jaye chose Flint in both the comic and the cartoon.

Oooh, good point. I wonder if the Lady Jaye/Flint relationship was mandated somehow?

i never read any of the comicbooks and have always hated the cartoon,so i based my joes personalities off of the file cards. but i didnt really play with my joes as much as my other toys because they we're to small to fit in with my other figures and also i felt that joes break to easy and i was rough on my toys, so even at an early age i basically got joe to collect more than to play with.
