The IJ line is pretty pathetic, if it is getting cancelled it is well deserved, the weapons are horrible and all bendy, clearly the GI JOE figs are far superior in consturction and look. I have not ever really seen anyone looking at joes anywhere and I think that is because not many locations have a huge assrortment of them. They are kinda stuck in between a lot of garabage (thos stupid 2.99 packs of plastic reatrdedness The Corps figures...) a lot of people do not even probabley notice them (especially when there is only 1-2 pegs and 2-3 vehicles that may or may not be directly below the figs. The 12inch figures also obscur them like at Walmarts and targets. If they had end caps and bigger displays like Star Wars and Transformaers get I am betting they would be looked at more often.
And Toys R Us in general I hardly see more than maybe 1-3 people in there at various times in the day I stop by, usually Kid + Mom buying trading cards or the random Person just shopping for whatever. I remember as a Kid seeing tons of people in Toys R Us at any given time and STUFF everywhere to buy. Toys have really taken a turn for the worst as most kids these days prefer cell phones, Wiis and Power Ranger techno stuff...modern world for us as kids was the cold war and everything seemed to revolve around war and mutually assured destruction, so military vehicles and toys were portrayed to that, especially in the plastic toy gun area. I remember having really awsome realistic looking toy weapons. Today you get the Aqua-green Orange tipped Water pusher (ex-gun).

That's a great question. I have seen kids look at G.I. Joe figures but I don't think I have honestly seen them put one in a parents cart. I wonder what this means about Joe fans....

What is GI Joe? GI Joe, for us, is exactly what the TV said it was: A Real American Hero. As products of the cold war, and possibly the last generation to have the spirit of our country embedded into us at every moment, myself especially (My familiy, as far as we know, has numerous generations of service members on both sides, at least pre-world war I).
Back in the day, we held our own military to that high regard. They defended us from villainy around the world, including communism. Real American heroes.
Leading up to, and after the downfall of the Soviet Union, the people who were alive and ready to make babies after Vietnam generally got a sense of the American GI as murdering rapists (this is an exaggeration). Couple this with the unwavering government determination to stop the spread of communism by any means, and scandals like iran-contra, the high position we elevated our service men and women to has only sunk.
Today, war is not something we do to help people, to defend freedom against ruthless organizatons and countries determined to rule the world. Now war is about killing, imperialism, capitalism, profit, etc. War has always had these concepts built in, but publically, support for American military action has declined. 9/11 saw a resurgence in "patriotism" but that has only diminished ten fold with the bumbling of the invasion of iraq near the beginning. We are loosing faith in everything american, from our public adminstratitors to our fighting men and women. Or servicemen get spit on in public today. I was taught to call every service member, enlisted or officer, sir or ma'am. That was a simple respect i could pay them.
In the old days playing with guns out in the streets meant we dreamt of being heroes of our own someday. I wish i had the endurance to haul a SAW around in desert for months on end. That is arguably heroic in a voluteer military. Now, our culture has been so deeply penetrated by hatred and violence that when a kid holds a toy gun there is fear that he might be plotting killing his teacher or even an angered friend. Parents are so afraid of potential problems most of our system is now devised to push responsibility away from themselves. Kids, parents, schools, our government are responsibile for nothing. Problems get pinned on video games, television, and music. Delcine in the acceptance of responsibility for oneself is why our society is crumbling.
I raise my son the way i was raised, never look for a fight, but never turn away when one comes looking for you.
I know a lot of these thoughts are loose, incomplete, and possibly offensive, so i apologize. It is late here. I don't mean to offend. People are just scared in today's world. Fear drives everything in our culture now. It's a far cry from standing and facing your problems head on (even without a gun) like our old buddies in GI Joe did.
Who needs courage when you have... a gun!

I've personally never seen my son go nuts over GI Joe toys, or even picked any at the store when we have gone, but he was quick to tell my parents that I only buy toys for myself, and never for him. (I had just bought him a SW Lego vehicle the night before, as a matter of fact, so pssssst!)

it's all about the Bakugan people. and Ben 10.
you know those stuff, across the aisle where they have Hasbro (SW, TF, and the Joes) stuff. right across they got those Pokemon, Ben 10, Bakugan, and i don't know what else.
yeah, they get more attention. than any of those FOV or GI Joe stuff.

I've only run into a few instances of kids even looking at Joes. It's usually after they've seen me checking the pegs; they give curious, cursory glance at the selection. Have I ever seen a kid actually buy any? Not since Sigma Six... kids ate that stuff up in my area.

I only saw 2 kids ever and 1 of them was pretty much looking at every toy at Walmart so not Joes specifically.

Early on in my Modern Era collecting I went to Toys R Us and walked in to see a mom with her son buying one of the 5packs, wave 6 torpedo, and wave 6 cc in battle armor. This is just when wave 6 hit stores so I was all freaked out when I only found a beat up wave 6vrockandroll and cc and the same sad old hooded cc, buzzer, and gungho. I found torpedo later but omg what a scary moment....

I finally saw a kid pick through Joes(actually 2) after all this time of seeing a bunch of older guys going through them. The first was at Walmart I say he must have been 10 or 11 years old.I saw him sifting through all the Joes looking all sad he must have been looking for someone. He did pick out from what I saw a General Hawk another figure I couldn't make out and 2 comic packs. At this moment I felt so bad and guilty it made me think when I was a kid I had my choice of pickings and there were no men in their 30's driving around in their SUV's from store to store early in the morning competing with one another to get the Joes first. There was no internet like it is now fueling scalpers to gobble everything up to make a quick buck online. The second kid must have been about 4-6 years old and very hyper he grabbed a Ninja-Ku from Target he must have chosen that because it was a ninja(now if we can only convince kids Cowboy helicopter pilots are cooler) but then his mom gave the old Joe-block and told him he couldn't have it because it cost too much for such a little thing,he begged then his older brother about 14 trying to be cool and staring at a Cobra Rattler said that it was a waste of money.I felt bad for the little bugger I wish I could have bought him that Ninja-Ku but I'm sure his mom would have freaked that a complete stranger wanted to buy her son a toy.I hope I find more kids like this since this is the only way for this line to survive and especially now with all the revision cases flooding the pegs we need these kids to buy them up so we can see a good supply of Wave 10,11 and beyond on the pegs
