What are some of the reflections...or signs of the times in the ARAH line that really just blatantly stick out...and "DATE" the mind set and the flavor of the line/brand with some genuine and obscure defining moments...
Some things like this, for example... William "The Fridge" Perry as a joe, bc of that completely crazy time where the BEARS were tied into nearly everything... The Eco Warriors in the 90's reflecting our first attempts at going green, and Earth day awareness... There's obviously tons more...where GI JOE reflected the times... i'd like to hear what some of you guys come up with... |

for me it was in 87 that i really started to grasp the pure awesome that was gi joe. i was only 5 but i remember getting techno viper, and the maggot, with w.o.r.m.s, and just lying on the floor, playing with my favorite cobras, just trying to imagine what would come next. i was hooked on vipers and renaming cool characters as new vipers. what i'm saying here isn't one specific moment of realization but it was the begging of the mass of different vipers we would see in the arah line. i was hooked on everything and anything that said viper from that point on.

hahah...it's okay...i know what you mean...
but i'm talking more in reference to pop cultural stuff gi joe had that was relevant during the 82-94 years...that today we look back on like wtf? IE: the brand mirroring society in pop culture.. Snake eyes break dancing is another one example... |

Following the Eco Warriors example, there was also DEF which came out when all of America was joining the fight against drugs. Also Ninja Force, thinking about the timing of the release of these figures, they could've been a concept all their own, but they were probably a response to the growing popularity of THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES during that time. All the kids in my neighborhood wanted to be Ninja Turtles in those days. I even made nun chucks out of two pieces of wood and duct tape.

I noticed joes got more ripped/muscular later in the line maybe reflecting how action stars of the day like Stallone, Arnold, and Van Damme looked. The 90s brought neon Joes to match our neon clothes. And Ninja Force probably came as a result of Ninja Turtles.

Storm Shadow and re-inventing Snake Eyes as a ninja was part of the whole 80's Sho Kosugi ninja thing, was it not?
I remember as a child everybody wanted to be them when we played. Except for me. As long as I was Destro I didn't care.
