Conflict, the problem is, very few people need an entire collection, and a lot of the non-"new crap" is basically not even worth retail - many of the Commanders, Dukes, repaints and "peg-warmers" like Buzzer, and most of the legions pack figures are a few examples. Most everyone who is in the market to buy already owns a large portion of that collection, and so that diminishes your ability to make even retail off the entire set. You'll be very lucky to get retail as a lot - you'd be much better selling the figures in small lots or individually.
Blaster, I'd say you were being generous with your pricing. With the amount of product on the secondary market, and the number of re-releases, and repaints, the common figures aren't really going to sell even for retail and the other ones might go for slightly above, but not by much - IE Bludd, who's value has dropped severely.

If you were planning on selling, the secondary market would be your best bet as opposed to here. And if you did, the advice to give would be to sell them figures as two or three figure lots consisting of one popular figure accompanied by one or two peg warmers. This way you off load peg warmers by making the popular figures only available with common figures.
Make sense? As far as what would I pay for it? To answer your question I have to be very general. A collection varies in worth to the person viewing it. I consider my collection priceless and irreplaceable. Were I in need of all of your figures I'd ask you to name a price then low ball you. |

for the record, im not selling my collection. the only reason i asked was because a friend of mine offered me a nice amount for my entire 25th/modern era collection and i wanted to see if it matched up with what a more knowlegeble collector would offer. though my friend offered me a good amount, i personally felt it wasnt enough for me to even consider selling my collection. hypathetically speaking, if you(as a die hard joe fan an collector) didnt own any of this line, how much would you pay for it, in order to catch up?

Whenever I buy big collections, I pay 1/3 of retail for each item. It sounds cheap, but when handling big collections, I'm taking the crap with the good.
usually the good stuff is what I want and the crap is just that. SO If I want to sell the crap, I got to try to break even or as close as possible to make it worth MY while. People who are selling collections are looking to get away from it in one swell swoop without the hassle. So A collection like this would be something like $1.50-2.00 a figure, $5 a small vehicle, etc. I've done this many times with Star Wars, Heroclix, GI JOE, Transformers, and hot wheels. I could tell you about some awesome deals that would make some people envious. |

make it a pack of skittles and we got a deal...but on a serious note, how can one call themself a collector of something and be a penny pincher? it is expensive to collect anything,us toy collectors mainly us joe collectors have it pretty easy compared to some collectors. to often i read people complaining about the price hikes and stating how their wallets need a break, come on, these are toys and they are still cheap. if money is that big of an issue, you probably shouldnt be buying toys in the first place. now i know those two posts was poor attemps of humor but some of these tank members are just plain cheap.

Half the time, I don't need any of it, or could use some of it. But the fact is, they need money. So I tell them what I will pay for it. No one has to sell it to me for what I am offering to help. Not trying to be a cheap ass, just helping someone. A friend of mine was in need of money awhile back, something like $300. He offered up his Xbox, several games, a crapload of heroclix, his paintball gun, gas tanks (big ones) and some accessories. I bought it all for $400 as I felt I could get it back and keep the heroclix I wanted. I sold the xbox and games for a mere $50 at a game store. So now I was out $350. I decided to go ahead and sell the heroclix in hopes to recoup my money. I sold it piece by piece and made roughly $300. My friend called about a month later and asked if he could buy the paintball stuff back. It was an expensive gun that I could have gotten $200 for it. Sold it back for $100. So I made $50 and helped someone out. Had I paid full value for it, I would have been really screwed or my friend wouldn't have gotten the money he needed. |
