But I also dig the apocalyptic setup…well, maybe not total collapse, but things are pretty messed up. I want it to be a world where Cobra, MARS, Dreadnoks, etc. can thrive, and where the heroes are kind of on their own, without too much support or resources (given that, well, the gov’t is broke, unstable and fractious). So it’s kind of like our real world…only multiply the dangers and conflicts, the mercenaries and militias, the Dr. Venoms and Mindbenders, the mutants and monsters and ghosts, oh my! Really, the Joes are action adventurers first; military men second. You know, like Indiana Jones, who went through the motions of being an “archeologist”, until the plot got rolling and he became a swashbuckling pulp adventure hero.

So in 2020, General Hawk assigned Duke to recruit men for the new GI Joe team (The original headed 20 years before by GI Joe himself). The team fought against Cobra when they took over New York. They next stopped the Pursuit of Cobra (Costing Cobra thousands in cash. The Joes then received the mobile P.I.T.T. II, and used that as their primary base.
In 2025, Cobra finally discovered the P.I.T.T. II, and attacked it, similar to how the deceptions attacked the autobots in Transformers: The Movie (1985). Duke is killed by Cobra Commander. The remaining Joes found the FLAGG (which was repaired after it was sunk by Iron Klaw), it's Captain is Keel Haul (Believed to be dead, so he can't be an admiral), and it hunted down Neo-Cobra La, an organization headed by Iron Klaw, which believes Cobra-La's are the rulers of the world, and must control humans and restore the old order of Golobulas. Next Cobra Commander is captured. At the middle of the atlantic ocean, a year after the joes boarded the FLAGG, the Neo-Cobra La's debut their new aerial fleet, The Dark Ravens (3 of them), and destroy the FLAGG using the Tower of Babel. Keel Haul jettisons the joes and stays on the ship. 6 months later, after restoring the Mobile Pit III, they travel to Nevada, where they received pings from a joe, and find Keel Haul, Shipwreck, and Stalker who have recovered the governments secret project: The Defiant. Keel Haul launches the ship, christening it the New FLAGG. Iron Klaw returns to Kalistan (The Ruins of Old Cobra-La) and recover the battleship, the Ark, developed by the Cobra-La's to fight the Romans. The New FLAGG dives into the ship and Keel Haul, Falcon, and Psyche Out are captured and tried by Iron Klaw, who brings out Cobra Commander and the Commanders son, Emperor-Neo Serpentor-Latta (in reality, Willem La Latta, but is mind-controlled). Cobra Commander is, truly Christoph La Latta, the King of Old Cobra-La. The New FLAGG bombards the trial room, blows blasts at the controls, freeing all four prisoners, but also freeing the Emperors consciousness. He sacrifices himself by 1. Taking the two serpent staffs out of the controls 2. Overpowers himself to do the first. Iron Klaw escapes. The New FLAGG escapes with an injured Keel Haul, but Cobra Commander stays, using the serpent staffs to self destruct the ship. More to come. Last edited by CrackerJacks; 06-25-2014 at 12:17 PM.. |

That's where most of my figures are too so I have no displays up right now that really represent any universe. When I was a kid I remember largely just continuing storylines from the cartoon but adding stuff from the comics. I didn't have all the comics so I didn't know the mythology. I remember I would rip ideas off from other things. I remember since I had star brigade stuff cobra had built an Asteroid Cobra, which was a complete rippoff of Asteroid M. and I loved my Serpentor figure so I quickly had him resurrected. anyhow I suppose an adult if I display things I think in terms of a multiverse sort of concept. maybe I want the characters to be set in the movieverse. maybe they are in the cartoon world. maybe they are set in the hama ARAH world. maybe they are just a new universe that is an combination of all. as far as the IDW verse goes it would largely be New 52'd.

When I started to attempt to read the What Secrets Lurk In File Cards? thread there was an interesting discussion about the conspicuous absence of the JOE team chaplin. For some reason, the question of who would be the JOE team's chaplin always lingered in the back of my mind. Then (ironically enough on Christmas,) I saw this head sculpt.
and (like the proverbial light bulb going off,) it suddenly dawned on me who would be the JOE team's chaplin in my JOEverse. His name is Jesus (the Spanish pronunciation,) Blanco and as suggested in What Secrets Lurk In File Cards? thread his code name is going to be Shepherd. The JOEs will call him either by his codename. Padre, or Padre Shepherd. I'm either going to have a custom head sculpt of a younger St. Peter made and have him be Shepherd's Religious Services Specialist. His name will be Peter White, code name Deacon or have Footloose be the Chaplin's Assistant.

It's no longer the 80's in my universe but it's kind of timeless, Valor vs. Venom just occured, Cobra-La's events occurred minus the serpent CC, personalities follow Sunbow with details coming from the filecards, there's not much directly from the comics, Mindbender's failures with Venomous Maximus has given Overlord the green light to deploy his new BATS i.e. Robot Rebellion, CC is trying to keep Serpentor distracted out in the field to continue his hold of power in the HQ

I just started collecting not too long ago. I'm now building a storyline like the Crimson Strike Team, where Baroness is building her own secret subgroup within Cobra.
But in my Joeverse the Baroness is building her secret subgroup with Destro and not Tomax and Xamot. Her secret subgroup is called Cobra Urban Division and it consists of Vipers in urban camo and a black-ops squad called Cobra Urban Division Strike Team. I'm not building my Joeverese beyond the scope of my collection, so I'm still don't have an idea how the Iron Grenadiers fits into my storyline as I still don't own any Iron Grenadier figure. Steel Brigade is the name of the unit. It's essentially Delta Force. Sometimes they'll team-up with the U.K.'s Action Force, and Japan's Arashikage (who are modern military operators). They have a frenemy relationship with Russia's Oktober Guard.
Cobra is one of many terrorist organizations. Others include: The Dreadnoks, The Crimson Guard, The Coil, and The Red Shadows. Some of these entities have been known to work together. |

I have posted this places here before, but this was the "Pitch" for how I would do G.I. Joe. I have tweaked and added some bits and pieces but it may be familiar to some of you.
The man who would become Cobra Commander was a disgruntled American Right-Wing nut. The country was going to hell in a handbasket, no one was making any real money because of government lefties and communists and foreigners. He wanted what was hid and he didn't care how he did it. Small crimes and pyramid schemes gradually grewand evolved. He was smart and careful, so he got big very quickly, and managed to conceal his identity as he did it. What started as small militia in remote places started to turn into something he realized he could use. "Cobra" was started as a legit front and private contractor firm. He used this to spread influence overseas, setting up international branches of the same cons that had gotten him where he was in America. After a decade he had amassed enough influence, money, and had enough followers (Whether they knew they were following him or not) to start taking international actions on a grand scale. He had scientists experimenting with mind control, rich foreign royalty supporting them politically, a snake themed religious cult with followers worldwide, and the backing of a major arms company that made top notch experimental weaponry. Several years of successes followed, and soon Cobra was a name feared in most first world countries and used by many a would be dictator to get into power in smaller or poorer countries. At first international response was slow, with the various shells and blinds keeping intelligence agencies from being able to prove anything was happening until they were too big to deny... or stop. American military found that whenever they attempted to put a major strike on some Cobra plot, that somehow the enemy always knew they were coming. A young colonel and strategist named Clay Abernathy soon realized that Cobra had a lot of people within the militaries of the US itself, and probably in its government too. Using family connections, a few favors owed to him, and a small amount of blackmail, he was finally granted permission to set up a task force of military personnel from various branches who would deal directly with Cobra. Ostensibly run by General Larence Flagg, a personal friend of the president at the time(and Abernathy’s Godfather), the new unit would be given access to experimental weapons and technology, and given a free pass to work against Cobra as they would. Presidential orders were signed in secret, Promoting Abernathy to General and giving him the codename Hawk. Overtures were made clandestinely various to friendly militaries and agencies around the world, with only people who were known personally to to Flagg or Hawk being contacted. Selected soldiers from these nations would be sent to support the American effort. Flaf was the Units Public Leader, While Hawk was the units real commander. He and Flagg personally selected each initial member of the team, and those who were chosen were met with quietly and given a series of conditions to join this new unit. 1 - They would give up their names. Identities would be scrubbed through a specialized computer virus, making any digital record of them disappear, or end in a dead stop. Facial recognition, DNA and fingerprints would all lead any searcher to a dead end, or a soldier who had been killed in combat. 2 - They would no longer use their real names under any circumstances. Any leave would be had with unit members, or alone. They would have no contact with former family or friends. 3 - What unit or military you were from no longer mattered. You were no longer navy or army or seals. You weren't American, or Japanese or Australian. You were part of the team. Just another Joe. 4 - Hawk was in Charge. Then Duke. Then Scarlet, Flint and Stalker. Anyone else may be given lead for a specific mission as required. Previous rank no longer applied. THIS was the command structure. 5 - They keep going until Cobra is gone, or they are. Any soldier agreeing to these terms was given a new name by Hawk, and then sent to a small base in Utah. Ostensibly a desert combat school, this would be where the unit operated from. Support personnel were chosen in the same way as regular active soldiers and given limited access, though all Joes were expected to pitch in and be responsible for any areas that required them, from Armory and mechanical maintenance to paperwork and computer operations. Everyone was cross trained so that the unit could operate as independently from the regular military as possible. As the unit grew, new members could also come from people personally known to other Joes, if they passed muster with Duke, Hawk and Flagg. Publicly the Unit was named "G.I. Joe;" two generic terms for soldiers that kept the unit seemingly generic. Word was spread, publicly, that if any law enforcement or military officer who encountered someone who could properly identify themselves as a "G.I. Joe." they were to be given all due assistance as requested. They outranked anyone else in any given situation. While Cobra Commander did hear of this units appearance, he at first paid it no mind. Most of the people he had in power had never heard of this unit, and so it couldn't be very big, and he still believed he would receive intel that would keep Cobra on top of their game. However within 12 months, this unit had begun working with conventual militaries, foreign governments and rebel units to begin undoing the work of Cobra. Within two years Cobra only knew that this unit were a threat. Soon the public had heard about "G.I. Joe," but no one seemed to be able to tell where they came from and where they went. Journalists came up empty. Cobra sources were at a loss. Surveillance by on-the-ground men came up empty. Satellites would lose them. G.I. Joe were ghosts. G.I. Joe were Out There. No one knew how many. No one knew where they came from or where they went. There were always more of them. Always. Fighting for Freedom. Wherever there was trouble. Wherever there was Cobra. G.I. Joe was there.
