You know, I bet at least one child of a collector grows up emotionally scarred by it:
THERAPIST Tell me about your relationship with your father. ADULT CHILD OF COLLECTOR We have an all-right relationship, I guess. He collected action figures all during my childhood, though, and was real anal about them. I think he loved his collection more than me. I mean, how cruel is it to have a room full of packaged toys and a little boy who isn't allowed to open and play with them, or even touch them? "Oh, no, Andrew, you mustn't touch those! See, there's oil on our fingertips and that's why there are fingerprints and that oil can cause the cardboard on the packaging to decay so we never, EVER touch Daddy's toys, right? Right???" He would try to buy me stuff I wanted if I ever said I wanted one of HIS toys, but it still wasn't the same. It was like he was a big spoiled brat who wouldn't share. I remember when he and Mom used to fight over it, because of how much money he spent on toys every month and what other things we could have done with the money. I know she felt the same way I did, that he loved those damned toys more than us. He used to spend hours and hours in his "toy room" taking them apart and repainting them and Mom would sit in the bedroom and cry while I played video games. He'd also rant and rave about how he could never find anything because of scalpers, people who would buy up all the toys he was looking for to sell them on Ebay. I never understood why he got so mad, though, because he used to sell shit on Ebay all the time. He used to show me these boring-ass cartoons from the 1980's to try to get me into that shit. I was like, these were HAND-DRAWN, they look so fake, didn't they have computers in the 1980's!? I mean, I guess now we have a pretty good relationship. He was never physically abusive or anything like that. It was just a strange childhood. THERAPIST You feel his priorities were not in a healthy order, that he valued his toys more than his relationships with you and your mother. ADULT CHILD OF COLLECTOR Yeah, pretty much. Etc. etc. etc. |

I would open them. I only keep a select few on card. In the end this is totally up to you. None of us are going to get rich of these toys anyway - enjoy them.

i say leave them moc, to me they look cooler that way. besides the figs will stay protected, that way just in case you plan on passing them down to your child or whoever like i plan on doing, they will still be in good condition. if you open and pose them, just remember not to breathe within 20 feet of them or they'll topple over like domino's. finally, theres no way that these cheap figs will last as long as the rah figs did/do,they'll be looking pretty beat up in just a few years, i opened one of my beachhead figs and after trying to pose him for only a few minutes, his knees was loose as hell and the next time i picked him up,one of his legs, from the knee down, just fell off. but anyway, i'd keep them moc.

It's not like they're ever going to skyrocket in value or anything. Everybody is sitting on a stack of unopened figures these days expecting to one day be an eBay millionaire. And with everyone doing it, noone's gonna make any profit from it.
So tear those bad boys open and let the guy who tries to unload his 25th Snake Eyes v1 15 years from now and all it fetches is $12 (which adjusting for inflation by then will equal probably less than he paid now) feel like a dumbass for thinking he'd ever make money off of these things. Toys aren't the stock market. If you want to invest, try a CD or mutual fund, not army man dolls.

the easiest solution is to just give your collection to me, then you don't have to worry about opening them or have any regrets after opening. i'll even give you ten bucks for it. great deal. i'll even throw in shipping just to help a fellow tanker out.
(open and enjoy!) |
