I wont touch a single toy that doesn't have ball joints at there hip(Indie, Star Wars) and shoulders because I know that the amount of playability and the amount of poses they can take dramatically drop if they dont have them. What about yall?

I buy what I like.. and my He-Men came with almost no articulation.... but technically it does have ball joint shoulders... sort of... and not sure about the waist... but it has the punching action.

Do I prefer greater articulation? Absolutely... but if it's not there it doesn't really phase me. Gimmie a cool looking figure that pertains to what I collect and I'll buy it regardless of articulation.

I don't consider spherically shaped hinge and pivot joints to be ball joints, but to answer the question, lack of lateral hip and shoulder movement is a big turn off, for me. That lack of hip movement is why I have so few SW and IJ figures. I've got to really like the character to buy them (Or, want the included build a droid parts.) I mean, I don't need Chewie to be able to do the splits, but it would be nice if I could pose him, without him looking like he's doing the peepee dance.
Ratcheted and detented joints are just as annoying, though. "Look at all these joints we gave you, but you can only move them into certain positions." Articulation doesn't mean much, when you start removing poseablity. |

I really appreciate the Super Articulation on the new Star Wars figures. The ball jointed knees & ankles mostly, I could care less about ball jointed heads. The knees on the 25th Joes was a let down. I won't buy any of the new figures if they look like they're straight out of 1979, unless they have '79 prices. GI JOE made the old 5 point SW articulation seem prehistoric. It's no wonder I gave up on Star Wars when Joes came out in '82.
These new Joe figures have joints! Wow! Screw Star Wars!! Last edited by sweeper; 09-18-2008 at 04:33 AM.. |
