It's time for the 2nd edition. Here is a link to the 1st edition if you want to get the intro.
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1836 Now to start the 2nd edition I will discuss the Tiger Force. The original Tiger Force was by far my most favorite memory of my G.I. JOE experience. The thing that most excited me about the sub group was Flint. I had 90% of the figures between 84-92. One of the rare figures I didn't have was the 85 Flint. He also happened to be my favorite Joe. I believe that most people either loved Duke or they hated him. As a kid I hated Duke. I don't really know why, I actually really appreciate him now. One reason I think is because of the cartoon. I loved the cartoon. Most of the time it was either Flint or Duke who was leading the team. Therefore when Duke was on, Flint wasn't and that might have started my hatred for Duke. Anyway the Tiger Force brought me my first Flint figure. Before I used the 87 Falcon as Flint. So by gaining Flint, I also got Falcon in a way. Flint was used in all of my "missions" and was the official leader in my Joe world. He was the field commander and was the difference in my many battles in my Joe world. Flint would always lead my Joes. There were 2 people who ranked higher than him in my Joe world. 1 is a member of the Tiger Force, who rarely went into battle. The other was Keel Haul, who never went into battle. Flint was often captured by Cobra but never died. He also had a relationship with Lady Jaye and Zarana. Flint was the central of all operations in my Joe world. Another thing the Tiger Force brought me was a new Duke. Even though I hated Duke, he was still a force in my Joe world. The original Duke I had, lost an arm in battle. I wasn't skilled enough in my young age to give him a new arm, so he was known as the one armed soldier. When the Tiger Force Duke came, the one armed Duke went into the trash (sigh). When I first got the Tiger Force they never left each others side. Then after awhile they all had there purpose. Roadblock and Lifeline wasn't used much because I liked there original figures better. Bazooka would switch on and off depending on the "mission". Tripwire was a great addition because I didn't have him yet. Frostbite wasn't used because he was a member of my "arctic squad" and I didn't like the Tiger clothing on him. Two members that I was dying to get into my Joe world were Recondo and Dusty. The Tiger Force gave them to me. Somehow I had missed out on the original figures of two of my favorite Joes. These two never left each others side. They were a 2 man team that caused many problems for Cobra. Often when they needed a lil more firepower, Leatherneck would tag along. These two men were a force in my Joe world and provided tons of fun for me. They would often spy and attack the most feared Cobra's in my Joe world, the Dreadnoks. In one particular mission, Dusty was captured by Zartan and tortured. With no way of reporting back to Flint, Recondo took on all the Dreadnoks and saved his teammate. The final addition was Skystriker. He is a highly underrated figure in my opinion. When I got him I instantly fell in love with this toy. He was promoted to 2nd in command in my Joe world. The only man above him was Keel Haul. Both him and Keel Haul were 5 star generals. Flint was a 4 star. Skystriker often gave the orders with Keel Haul staying in the background. He would go into battle only when he was really needed. When Flint was injured or captured he would take over. Overall the figure was just awesome and I'm grateful that he was part of the Tiger Force. Heres a link if your having trouble remembering what he looked like. http://www.yojoe.com/action/88/skystriker.shtml The Tiger Force meant a lot to me. They were awesome toys. Yes they were repaints, but as a child I didn't care. They gave me 4 figures that I really wanted, that somehow I had missed out on. They also gave me a new Duke and a brand new Joe that would prolly make my top 5 favorite of all time. I received the Tiger Force all at one time. It was a Christmas gift from my Father. They brought many memories to my childhood. Here is a link to the Tiger Force from yojoe.com if you want to remember what they looked like. http://www.yojoe.com/action/subteams/tigerforce.shtml The 3rd edition will come to the Tank within the next week or so. The 3rd edition will discuss the most powerful Cobra force in my Joe world. I will also show the Rank in Command for G.I. JOE. Again this is something I'm doing to reflect on my experience with G.I. JOE as a child. I'm doing this here because I think some of you might enjoy it. If you guys don't, or if it bothers you or you think it's stupid please let me know. I won't continue to do this. |

nice article: i freaking LOVED Tiger Force as a kid ~ cool redecos of a lot of early rare figures i never had (i think Duke was the only Tiger Force member i had the original of)
i remember thinking the Paint Aps on the vehicles were just beautiful ~ and i've always been a big fan of mouth/eye combos going back to the P-51 (even if it looked a little strange on some of the vehicles like the Tiger Paw) Tiger Force -vs- Python Patrol produced some epic battles (Python patrol was the first time i ever army built )

My turn to add to this, btw this is very cool of you to share your childhood memories with your Joes.
I remember the first mail away I sent away for. It was the Hooded Cobra Commander. http://www.yojoe.com/action/84/cobracommander2.shtml The order form stated 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. I actually marked off the days on my calander. Those were the longest weeks ever. I just couldn't wait. Finally he arrived I was so excited. I was amaze by the gold belt and the dark blue. He became my default Cobra Commander. He had so many run ins with the Joes and managed to escape everyone. I really need to add him back to my collection. |

I recall getting the Tiger Force Roadblock and thinking;
"That yellow helmet will get him killed in the bush for sure." Hahha Weird paint jobs, but like everyone said, it was a way to get some of the more popular figures if you missed them the first time around.

I loved Tiger Force when I was young, and as an adult, I have the bad habit of randomly wanting to collect a subline (which I always sell later, go figure).
Last year I was on a HUGE tiger force kick. Snagged every US release except the Tiger Rat (couldn't find a decent complete one at the time, wtf?). Then I decided to go after the Euro TF figures. Everything was going well until I got Marujo (Tiger Force Shipwreck). The seller claimed that the figure was minty. Me, I don't care if it's not SUPER MINT C9 RABBLE or whatever. As long as it's decent and has minimal paint wear, I'm fine. That said, the figure had all sorts of paintwear, was obviously dropped on concrete or something because he was missing a chunk out of his hat and his pant hook was just about broken off! This got my nerd anger going...and I decided to sell everything, lol. I didn't want to take the chance of spending that kind of cash on any more figs. I even went as far as customizing TF vehicles...er...vehicle. Nothing fancy, but I liked it ;) All in all, the only survivor now is Tiger Force Outback. He's currently "tree climbing in Borneo"...aka standing off of a branch in my Fiance's Sun Plant. Little does he know that there's a Ninja Viper stalking him! (Dear God, am I still 8 or what?) |

I never really liked the Tiger Force Line, because of the Orange/Yellow Painting.
They looked like Figures from the Jurassic Park Line. Today I think the Tiger Force was a tasteless step to the End of the Joe ARAH Line in '94. Tasteless like the German SS Pack from Smalljoes.com Look at this Article about the REAL Tiger Force: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Force Military Murder Units like these doesn't deserve an own Figure and shouldn't be connected to Heroes like G.I. Yes it was a great time when these two sub groups came. I was a little disappointed with the selection of the PP, but still great figures. |
