I have a 3 year old. He loves to play Gee Die Joe. The figures I have released from their plastic coffins seem a little flimsy right out of the pack and I am scared to death to leave him alone with them. He wouldn't necessarily rip them apart for the heck of it, but he does play a little rough.
Any of you with young'ns who have given them 25th figures to play with, any horror stories or insights as to the durability of these new figures? Thanks. |

In my opinion 25th Anniversary Joes are not suitable for kids of 3 years old to play with them because they come with small accesories and jointn aren't to strong so they can easily break apart. I think Combat Heroes is the real deal for that age but you'll have to wait a bit more until they hit stores. Another possibility is Sigma Six or the new 12" line because most of the accesories are big.

I popped the head off a "Crimson Guard" Cobra Commander and let my 1& 1/2 yr old play with it...it keeps her away from all my OTHER figures...Of course, she doesnt play with it unsupervised, since Im afraid of her biting the hands off...

Yeah, my son won't get a sniff of my Joes until he's at least 5 or 6. And he's generally not destructive. I just don't think they would hold up well until he really learns to take good care of them. They're not made for abuse by a toddler at all.

Sorry, guess I wasn't clear in my question.
I am really wondering what, if any, durability issues have been noticed (now that these 25th are almost a year old) when 5-10 year olds (or older . . . ok way older) play with these things in the rough. I know everyone has remarked about the softer plastic. Having handled them to set some up for photos, they just feel fragile to me. Thought it would be interesting to hear any horror stories related to Joe play. It will prepare me for the inevitable heartbreak my son (and probably me even more so) will have when he brings a cherished BAT to me in pieces. |

The soft plastic will hold up to more abuse than the same parts made from rigid plastic would. The soft plastic gives and rebounds, where the harder plastic would easily snap off.
I really don't understand where this mindset of soft = fragile comes from. The new Joes are made from softer plastic, because it's more durable. No more snapped off thumbs. |

My 3 year old has a few joes and plays with them often. He is out of the putting everything in his mouth stage. I did strip the figs of gear and weapons however.
So far the figs have held up very well. Much better than I had thought they would. They are scratched up and some of the joints are looses, but nothing has popped off and he plays with them very roughly. |
