My collection is mainly some I like and ALOT boxed away for when my son gets older (he is 3 atm).
Atm it consists of
G.I.Joe wave 1-13 unopened (most have foil 25th anniversary but not sure if i got them all)
DOC (fig is mint but box is beat to hell)
CC (not sure which one i have)
Indiana Jones Crystal Skull mailaway guy
B&w cap (thank you secret santa)
Random Hot Wheels (Ateam van, Delorian)
and a few others as well as everything on my shelves displayed of course.
He loves G.I.Joe, Justice League, Marvel and Hot Wheels. I am so far from knowledge of what collections are even worth anymore but my first intention was to save things for him and give them to him later as he gets older (guess cause never had that "oh wow dad's comics or cards feeling myself).
Does anyone else do this? Should something like this be more "ok son here is this worth $$$$"? or is it more just the thought for you. the only thing I have from my dad is a Germany beer stein but I have displayed it everywhere I have lived (was in military) and it was awesome the day my mother gave it to me
Anyway sorry for the ramble on, just curious what other collector parents think and maybe to get some more ideas

Our stuff was neat and nostalgic, but their generation is into Clone Wars, the old Kenner toys are great extras but no longer 1st round draft choices.
Larger toy sets are always good times, and no other kids have one, I guarantee that!

I think sometimes we buy it hoping our kid likes it and want them to but at the end of the day it's all in our head thinking they will but really could care less about joes. Though I am sure some kids do the majority prob don't.

After all he is 3 and still chewing on things and joes have to many small parts lol. I was just curious how others thought or may be doing

The 1/6 Scale Baroness that was a con exclusive a few years back
&
The Supergirl/She-Ra 2 Pack
It'll be a while before she's old enough to play with them, I'm thinking I'll just buy em and stash them in a closet until then.

I gave them Combat Heroes when they were 2...good bath tub toys and they still play with them two years later...
I started them on the classic GI Joe cartoons and my son liked Snake Eyes off the bat and my daughter loved Scarlet. They ask to watch Renegades and sometimes ask for the GI Joe box (the footlocker complete series). They play with the toys and my son asked for a Cobra base for Christmas and Santa delivered a Cobra Mountain and the RoC Pit...
I wanted them to like GI Joe as much as I did, and my son enjoys them, but they aren't the end all be all toy. I don't have a problem with that, I was just happy he played with them at all...or else I wouldn't have an excuse to continue buying little plastic army men (my wife is an enabler for my addiction - she bought me a Tippi foam cutter and a Dremel for Christmas so I can make dios and she didn't blink an eye when my JCPenny Peacekeeper F-18's showed up on the doorstep today).
There are a few that I'll keep sealed (extra SDCC Zarana, both Slaughters, etc.) but the rest have become good behavior incentives....kids pick up all their toys for a week and keep their responsibility charts going (clothes and toys picked up, help with getting ready for school / bed / bath, putting dishes in the sink) and they get to pick out a figure.
At the end of the day, Woody and Buzz preferred to be played with and Stinky Pete was just a crusty old bastard for being in MIB all those years...

My 12 year old doesn't have brand loyalty. He goes with what he likes. He's got iron man and capt. America fighting along side joes against cobra and jango fett, with both sides being picked on by jurrasic park dinos. I've got a small collection started for my 2.5 yearold daughter. I've been saving all the female characters from the last couple years. I'm not sure when I'll give them to her, but I want to wait until she shows more interest. Right now it's all about Dora and spongebob.
