What makes a scalper a scalper? Charging more than double the price than retail? What is your definition of scalping?
The reason I ask, is that in a couple of months I plan on selling some older carded figures. original release Flint, shark Shipwreck, original silver versions of flash, battle armor commander, rock and roll, torpedo, and major bludd. Anyways, lets just say that I won't be selling these things for cost and was wondering if I'm going to take some negative flack from you guys about my prices. Does ebay prices dictate if someone is scalping or not? I often get you guys a bunch of army builders that you can't find in your areas but seem to be plentiful in my area. I've helped lots of you with crimson guards, troopers, bats, hiss drivers, snow serpents, etc.... and I do it at cost. I charge cost for those simply because they are still in retail. The items I'll be selling are no longer at retail and never will be again, so I see no problem raising the price significantly on those. Your thoughts? |

You shouldnt let tankers dictate what you do wth your figures, brotha. You bought them, you paid for them, so you can do what you want with them.

I have no problem with that. If your prices are too high, people simply won't buy them. I don't think people have a problem with making money off something valuable, its when people buy up and horde items for the sole purpose of reselling them to make money, ripping people and somewhat controlling the price erstwhile. (Yes, I just used erstwhile)

I would view a scalper as somebody who doesn't care about the hobby of collecting and is just doing it for the money. I have no problem with anybody buying something and then re-selling it for a profit.
I was one of the first ones who got an extra set of Target planes and I started the eBay auction at cost and it ended at $142 for the set. I have no control of the final price of an auction. I am also a very passionate GI Joe collector and I will use duplicates of hot items to help fund my collection. What I mean by this is basically my Target Rattler and Conquest were paid for with that eBay auction. I see nothing wrong with that. I think "scalper" is used to often around here much like "legend" is in the sports world.

umm I think scalpers are people who do not work for a living and all they do is hit up every store in there area just to buy everything new to turn around and sell.. I know alot of people who sell somthing double what they paid for it and that dosnt make them scalpers... I think its when you just collect to sell and not collect to enjoy and keep the items.. I have bought and paid 3 times the worth from people who i dont consider scalpers.. I just think some people get luckey and find things before other people and then you have people like me who hate to wait and are willing to pay triple for somthing..

But for me, I enjoy the hunt of finding new items and when I do I will pick them up. Sometimes I sell them on here at cost to help out people and other time I put them on Ebay to make a few bucks. I do think it is unfair that some people "expect" you to automatically sell them something at cost or take a hit just because we sell something on here and not ebay.

I also have sold things for way more than what they are worth and i dont consider myself a scalper.. Most the time I sell at cost or i trade at fair value.. But i think like what alot people here have said its everyones right to sell for what ever they want... No one has to buy it... I actually felt bad for selling a rattler and conquest to someone for $80 when the next day they were in every single store in my area... but hey I guess that life.. I think alot of people use the word scalper to make people feel guilty about selling things...

Im holding on to my SDCC (Blue and Black) CC for such a day.....Ill start the bid out at $9.99 on both (Because that is what i paid for them) and let people bid on it......
