Has anyone noticed the large amount of Star Wars sound affects the Gi Joe cartoons use? In almost every episode i have heard some kind of tie fighter or x-wing sound affect used when they have an air battle

Yeah, I always thought that was cool. Apparently, it was kind of an inside joke back in those days for Film and TV Sound Designers to use stuff from other works as kind of an homage to the original. There's actually this one particular scream sound effect thats in something like over 100 films, a lot of which had sound design work done through Skywalker Sound. Its in every Star Wars film, and tons other movies.
These days you'd most likely never hear borrowed sound effects like the Joe cartoon did. There's too much fear of lawsuits and the like nowadays. |

Yeah, Star Wars paved the way for a lot of stuff. I think that Lucas set the standard not only for special effects, but also sound. Because of SW, we have a lot of cool stuff, but it also makes it hard to find something truly original.

Like Red Ryder guns, Zorro masks, etc. Lucas was the one who made contracts for actors for likenesses, either take a percentage, or take a lump sum. Being before the time, most actors chose lump sum as they had no clue. Sir Alec Guiness, is the only one who chose royalties and was paid heftily over the years as the result. Fisher, Ford, Hamill all chose....poorly and picked lump sums. That means from that day to this, they COULD have gotten a percentage of every figure, book, poster etc with their likeness. SO yeah, it's no wonder people pay homage to Lucas in this regards, even though he has recently created crap, he still created alot more in the entire industry. |

Transformers and g.i.joe used the same sound effects and some of the soundtracks for the cartoons.

Yea, I noticed that alot too when I started watching the ol' series, think they even squeezed in that 'scream' sound affect that they used quite a few time in the original trilogy. I might be mistakin', but it was some sort of vocal similarity.
