No choice for 70's? I had a 12" gijoe back then (it was first my brother's, then mine when he was too old to play with it - he is 7 years older than me). It had a locker and a bunch of equipment and outfits. (Bulletman went in there as well!)
As for the 3 3/4" figs, I started in '82 with Hawk and the MMS.

I started getting into them around 1983. I had traded something (I don't remember what) to a friend for the Dragonfly, Wild Bill, Red Pads Grand Slam w/ JUMP and a few Cobras. I had gotten a dew more here & there until my grandparents, not knowing who I had & who I didn't, got me a giant TRU bag for my birthday in 1984. In it was every Joe & Cobra that was pictured on the back of the 1984 figure cards. My collection took off from there.
So I guess I really picked up steam in 84, stopped collecting about 1989, then picked it up a few years ago with the VvV & DTC stuff. Then the 25th line came out & I was blown away by the figures, but hesitant to commit to the line if it was only going to be 25 figures, many of them (Cobra Commander, Duke, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes) repaints. But I did anyway, and here I am. |

I was a big Joe fan in my childhood, from 84 to 89 I guess. I stopped after awhile, and very recently started buying 25th joes, and I'm majorly hooked again

I feel so intimidated around all these seasoned fans here!
Okay, so I –did- watch the cartoon when I was a kid, and I did enjoy it, but during the eighties I never really was into them to the point of looking into the figures. Plus my family was always strapped for cash (yea, here comes the sob story…) so there was never a lot of money for toys back then, but I learned to live with it. Wasn’t until the early 90’s that I got my first few figs at garage sales, recognizing the characters form the show I was like ‘oh wow, these are cool!’ I never really got very many but I collected a few, eventually finding Shipwreck, and I was totally stoked about that because he was always my favorite guy. Wasn’t really until recently I got more heavily into ‘em, and my roommate helped a lot, Now I can’t get enough of the vintage and new ones, and together we’ve accumulated quite a few, which has been an absolute blast. My most favorite discoveries being the FLAGG and Terror drome, those things kick some serious @$$. I have to resist sitting down and playing with either because I got all the figures set around and in it all neatly and I don’t want to wreck the display. …sure I will eventually though |

I was 6 in '82 and walked into Granddaddy's Toy Store a little mom n pop store next to the Mexican restaurant my folks liked to eat at, and they took me in there after a meal one night.
On this end cap were pegs full of this new version of G.I.Joes before the Cobra troops were even out (I saw Snake-Eyes and remember thinking , "oh he must be the bad guy they fight") and I looked at all of them a little skeptically because they look cool, but there's no way they're related to that lame doll I got when I was four whose beard is rubbing off and I can't get those doll clothes back on and is currently rotting in the bottom of the toybox. No, these guys have promise as a toy. I mean, look at the poseable arms! So I grabbed Flash, because he looked like my other favorite toy at the time, Star Wars. It was all over though once that comic hit. Star Wars was out the window and the Joes were in. I wanted every piece I could get. 1982. |

I started my collection in 82' with Flash and a Ram. Didn't stop collecting till the line finished in 94' didn't bother collecting any of the rerelease stuff due to crappy paint and plastic. the Stars and Strips box set really disappointed me.. started collecting agan with the VvV and DTC lines.. when I heard the news about the 25th, I went on a search but never saw anything. Finally on the day they were putting the box sets out I picked up 2 of each. and since then.. well I have pics up of my 25th collection.. only missing the new stuff that hasn't hit the shelves. LOL
I somehow managed to keep all of my original Joes from my childhood through all the moves and my mother never threw any of them away. so I am lucky I suppose.
