I have 2 bad memories to share. I was an only child so I got pretty much everything minus a few big pieces. I had the terror dome and all the bid planes/boats. My dad wanted to get me the Flagg but we lived in a small apartment in Philly so there was zilch for room.
When I was 7 or 8 my pop got me the water moccasin and I had the bright idea that I was going to take copperhead with me to school. Well I did and during class I puled him out of my back pack to show a friend and my teacher was on me like stink on shit. She took my fig and told me I could get him back at the end of the year. I never got him back and boy was I pissed!
The other story is about me being a brat. It was around Christmas and I was being a pain and I was telling my folks that I wanted this and that for joes. My dad told me santa would make me happy this year and I said in response that he better! Well that did not go over to well and my pops started in on me about how other kids were noty going to get much or anything for Christmas. I was still in that 7/8 age range so I did not understand this stuff yet. I told him that I basically did not care or understand why santa would not bring them anything. I kept up and he told me, "one more time boy and that bridge layere will go back that santa bought (so I was dumb and did not put the two together right away). Needles to say that xmas morning there was no bridge layer and I was ticked. It did teach me a leasson about being thankful for what I had but dang, It took me years to be able to get one and when I did find one, I paid over 100 bucks for it MIMB!

Two quick stories.
I was playing in the dirt behind my tree house and made all these nice holes filled them with water and had some fun Joe water battles. Well my grandmother came by the holes when I was at school and then filled them in thinking that all those holes in the ground would be dangerous. Many a good Joe were put in an early grave.
Now most of you speak of hating the Eco-warriors Joes and from then on. Sure they might suck looking at them now, but as a I kid there were more cool Joes! So to go into the second story. My mom got me the Cobra Toxo-Lab! I was so excited, I set it up and filled it with water and dropped the tablets in to make the water bubble. Was so excited to see it bubble! I went inside to use the bathroom and when I came back out . . . there was no water in it anymore =/ my grandmother had already dumped it out.
There was also much later work of firework, fire, and of course part swapping that lead to the downfall of joes. Still have a few that lasted threw the trouble.
Looking for Flint and Firefly.

Well I never liked GI Joe as a kid so I have no REAL story....but it would go like this..
One day my mother sold all of my GI Joes to a co-worker just to make me study better in school....
Actually it was TMNT but the concept is the same.

I have many a tragic tale of joe loss and joe woe but one thats sticking out in my mind today after reading these depressing tales of dead-beat dads, bratty neighbor kids and grim misfortune is one time when I stupidly decided to take my WHALE for a real mission on the lake. I was extremely careful with the small parts. I removed anything that could easily fall off, including the roller wheels underneath. It was just the basic ship itself. We had some family friends that owned some lake property and they gave me unlimited access to it whether they were home or not. I would often bring friends with me and on this particular day in 1987, My best friend and I decided to have a joe adventure on the high seas. I brought the Water Moccasin, WHALE, and a few assorted troops and he brought the Devil Fish, Hydro Sled, and his new Cobra SEA RAY and some assorted troops of his. The Battle was grand and The Joes fought bravely. The wind started kicking up a little causing some waves but it only seemed to add to the intensity of our battle. Suddenly the Whale got away from me and was capsized by the hurling waves. About 6 Joes were tossed into the sea. It was up to My friend's Wet-suit to rescue them in the Devilfish. One by one the men were plucked from the sea's deadly grip. Cutter....Tripwire....Shipwreck....Sci-Fi....Flash....and then nothing. Minutes went by and NO SNAKE EYES. I began to panic. No only was this figure no longer in circulation but he was extremely hard to find to begin with. Most of my friend's envied me for having this figure. Losing Snakes would only level the playing field and make me less special. He was one of my favorites! My friend and I searched intensely for the fallen Commando but his cool black uniform only proved it's camouflage effectiveness in the murky waters that consumed him. After about 2 hours I gave up. Not even Snake Eyes could last that long under the water. I was heart broken. We had packed up the joes for fear of the possibility of more casualties and continued to swim but I was only doing so half-heartedly. Much later, as we were walking out to leave I stepped on something that felt like a rock. I reached down into the water and when my hand emerged there was Snake Eyes. It was as if he were saying "HEY, Don't forget me!" (Course if he was real he wouldn't say anything anyway). I was elated! He survived after all! He was reunited with his comrades and all was well in the Joe-verse again. I still have that figure to this day. He's a little worst for wear because I actually played with my figures in those days...that and cobra froze him in plastic cups a few times. I've since acquired another one in near mint condition so again...all is well in the Joe-verse!

October of 1986... I traded all of my M.A.S.K. figures and vehicles with a neighborhood kid for his entire Joe collection. The prize piece was the Cobra Hydrofoil.
Similar to another post earlier... a week after I got the Hydrofoil it rained hard, so hard that it backed up our Septic tank. My dad, who was home alone at the time, and was never one for dealing with his anger (always took it out on things instead of us, thankfully) opened my bedroom door, saw my Hydrofoil sitting on the floor (next to my Terror Drome & Nightraven) and crushed it with a stomp of his foot.
I had the thing only for a week...
Anytime he tries to make me feel bad about anything, I say: "Yeah, well you remember my Cobra boat, right?" and it shuts him up.
Now I'm just a few parts shy of a complete Hydrofoil again!
The other bad thing was giving my cousin all of my Joes and Transformers, which his step-dad threw out... so the things that survived my Dad's rampage were ultimately destroyed by his.
