You know I was thinking about this lately. First don't get me wrong, I love collecting and GI Joe and have had a great time collecting.
But I've been looking at my figs and starting to ralize how many of them are the same, just with different heads. Then it the thing that got me was the upcoming Hardmaster, Snake Eyes set. Grey Stormshadow and red snake eyes body with a bald head. Do you all think maybe we are just suckers, and Hasbro is taking advantage of that? Again not stopping collecting and still loving the fact that they are out there, but that particular CP and let's not forget PURPLE snake eyes is starting to make me wonder.

I think what disappoints me, is this line is just scarcely a little over a year old, and they’ve already started getting lazy with some of the figs. I mean, hey it’s great they can use the same molds for new chars, over and over…and over and over again (and over some more) but to be truthful they’ve gone a little ballistic and duke and snake-eyes happy on everybody. Doesn’t mean I’d stop collecting, the figures are there, as they are, probably the only way they’ll be released. The classic versions have been in hibernation so long (IE original colors, looks, and attire) I’m glad to see them return that way…even if they’re ‘borrowing’ other characters bodies.
If I’m a sucker for continuing, well so be it, I think if Hasbro had to go the extra mile and sculpt new bodies for each and every fig, this line probably would’ve died by the second wave, would’ve been too costly for them. Not like the old days when these guys had a cartoon show and comics on the shelves to boost interest in the merchandise, they’re sailing on alone and for what it’s worth, doing a pretty damn good job of it so far. Heck, stuff with cartoons I see on the shelves isn’t selling half as well as the Joe stuff is…but then again there’s like, ten times more of it. Oh well. |

the "purple" snake-eyes is coming in one of the DVD packs... because Snake-eyes was purple in the cartoon... straight out black looks awful in animation people, that's why cartoon characters have blue-black hair instead of straight black lots of the time.

The same is happening with Star Wars, lots of the same products being thrown to us. Vehicles and figures. It is annoying, but the way I see it.. half of the problem is fans, the completists that buy up anything n' everything hasbro releases. I try to be as picky as possible with my collecting, to avoid overspending. Hasbro can eat all the crap I don't want. I hope all the oddly colored comic packs stay on the pegs til 2010. The purple droids, the blue Vaders, the orange ewoks, etc, etc. Yeah it won't happen, parents will buy them for their kids..but I'm not wasting my money on em!! To each their own..
