I loved the AFA graded issue #2 of GI Joe I saw on ebay. It was a second printing of issue #2. Haha. Basically a worthless comic. Slap an AFA grade on it and suddenly it's got value.

I agree it is a huge scam and can't wait for the day they go out of business. |

Personally, I'm not into the whole grading thing, not for trading cards, comics, or action figures. It's just not my bag, partially because "condition" is so subjective.
On the other hand, I'm not into disparaging other collectors for enjoying their hobbies in their own ways, either. I really don't see the point in that. |

I've said this elsewhere, but to re-cap: A buddy of mine sent a figure in to AFA to be graded. Came back with a low grade. He removed it from the case...sent it back in under someone elses name...and got a completely different grade. How? No idea. I personally think AFA....well...I'm not going to defame a business that I have never personally dealt with. That being said..."a fool and his money..." |

i have one or two figures i want to get graded eventually. why? cause there cases are great and its the whole i got a fig with a afa of whatever. diffrence is these are my favorite figs and i in no way am doing it as an investment. i just want these figs to stay in the best possible shape they can. theres a market for afa. true they are flawed but they have a following and probobly aint going to be going anywere for a while.

The only grading authority on my items are myself and my son. If we like it...we buy it, if we don't...sometimes we buy it and repaint it, sometimes we pass on it.
My son is the chief of my grading authority...they are toys, and I buy what he likes...luckily we like the same toys. lol

One of the basic rules of capitalism is that something is worth whatever someone else will pay for it. Sure, the inherent value of a Storm Shadow figure from the 80s is whatever the plastic, paint, and cardstock cost, so almost certainly less than a dollar. But if AFA can get some chump to drop 6 grand on it? That's their business. Personally, I don't give a rusty fart about AFA or graded figures or any of that stuff. I think it's nonsense. But if someone else has the cash to pay for it? Also their business.
Now, the whole notion of people going into severe debt and overextending themselves for a few dozen cents worth of plastic...well, again, their business, but it's not illegal, just stupid.
